Will Ukraine Survive Intact?
American Thinker ^ | September 24, 2022 | Alexander G. Markovsky

Posted on 09/24/2022 8:57:59 AM PDT by Kazan

The war exposed Ukraine to two of her most critical vulnerabilities – questionable legitimacy and extreme nationalism. Legitimacy derives from acceptance and recognition. However, Ukraine’s neighbors Russia, Poland, and Romania do not accept their current borders with Ukraine.

###

After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, Ukraine got its borders within which she achieved independence and millions of Russians, Poles, Hungarians and Romanians were trapped in a newly created country.

The Ukrainian problem is greatly exacerbated by the fact that unlike pluralistic societies such as the USA, Canada, Switzerland, and Russia, which are tolerant of different cultures, religions, and languages, Ukraine is not. Unsurprisingly, devotion to pluralism proved not to be her forte. Even though the Kiev regime had no historical roots in the real estate it inhabited, it imposed Ukrainian rules and the Ukrainian language on non-Ukrainian people after declaring independence. It is worth pointing out that even in the Soviet Union, where Russian was the official language, the Ukrainian language and literature were compulsorily studied by everyone in Ukraine.

###

The territory of Ukraine is a mosaic of other people's lands. If we want to stop this insane war and ensure peace in Europe, instead of calling Russia’s sponsored referendum in Eastern Ukraine a sham, we should conduct an honest referendum in all the disputed territories under the auspices of the UN and let the people decide what government they want.

However you pronounce it, it’s where a mound was built on the grave of Count Koskuisco, who fought for the liberation of the United States and then Poland, and died in battle.

Lvov was Lemberg when Poland was divided between Czarist Russia, Prussia, and the Austro-Hungarian empires. When your state is multilaterally dissolved, you don’t get to name your cities.

One of the curious name changes was Katowice being renamed to Stalinogrod, after WWII.

It’s just amazing that WW2 missed Krakow.

Will Ukraine survive intact? Why am I supposed to care? It makes no difference to the well-being of my family or any family in America

I voted for Trump twice because I was tired of our leaders prioritizing the controversies in distant lands over the troubles facing Americans here at home - inflation, run down roads, bridges and power grid, Social Security going broke, etc etc

I voted for making America great again , not Ukraine or Venezuala or Afghanistan

How ironic that so many “conservatives” are arm in arm with the Biden Administration and Liz Cheney when it comes to hating Russia and being obsessed about what happens in Ukraine.

If you care so much about Ukraine, if Ukraine keeps you up at night, why should I see you as any different than Biden, Pelosi, Cheney or McConnell? You certainly aren’t MAGA, you’re MUGA ( make Ukraine great again).

Excellent rant and outstanding screen name...welcome to FreeRepublic!

My paternal grandfather was born in Slonim, which his birth certificate states was in Poland, which didn’t exist at the time, and it’s been variously part of Lithuania, Bialarussia and of course the Soviet Union. I think the Nazis razed it to the ground at some point. Trying to make sense out of Eastern European cartography is problematic.

One of the curious stories of the war. Krakow was the traditional burial place of Polish heroes, once of them was Marshall Pilsudski. Hitler ordered an honor guard to watch over Pilsudski’s grave when German troops reached Krakow, such was Hitler’s admiration for Pilsudski.

When Hitler came to power, he actually envisioned Poland as an ally, given their hatred of the Russians. Hitler promised the Poles they would get some of the spoils if they joined him against the Russians, even more land than they would have given back to Germany in the Corridor. Most likely the Poles would have gotten parts of Ukraine, Belarus and the Baltics out of the deal.

Of course what Hitler forgot was that Poles hated the Germans as much as the Russians.

Got a chuckle out of this...:-)

UKRAINIANS TO FREE UKRAINE: Might be the case here, figuratively, and LITERALLY, as Ukrainian POWs held in a Yelenovka detention center, not ONLY vote in referendum to free Donetsk Republic from Kiev’s terror and join Russia but also SIGN UP to join Russian-led forces to FIGHT Ukraine themselves, in a MASSIVE PLOT TWIST that might move UNHINGED Zelensky into asking for SANCTIONS against POWs.

Referendums going well...

⚡️BREAKING NEWS⚡️

Turnout for 2nd day of referendum (https://t.me/IntelRepublic/5428) to join Russia in Zaporozhye region is 35.54%, including votes from abroad, turnout in Lugansk People’s Republic is 45.86% - Electoral committees.

Hmmm... I can hardly believe how quickly their attitudes have changed...:-)

Breaking: EU’s Josep Borrell warns that Putin is not bluffing about using Nukes, Borrell said that the European Union should take Putin’s warning about using nuclear weapons seriously. The politician proposes a search for a “diplomatic solution” that would suit all parties to the conflict.

Quite a change of tune from “we must defeat Russia on the battlefield”

How are sanctions harming Russia? Everything they want to sell, China and Asian markets will buy.

Even though the Moscow regime had no historical roots in the real estate it inhabited, it imposed Ukrainian rules and the Russians language on non-russian people such as Buryats, Tatars, Kalmyks, Dagestani, Udmurts, Mari, Finns in Karelia, Yakuts, Nenets etc.

“ If you guys are successful, Russia will bring down the West, at a minimum.”

The best he could hope for is a Pyrrhic victory in the last seconds of his life. He’d quickly join the millions who died in a first strike.

Russia will take Odessa?

One might have thought that in March, but if you still believe that, you’re a fool.

Further updates include:

Multiple S-300 missile batteries destroyed.

Russian soldiers continue to retreat or surrender in all areas.

Most Russian logistical lines disrupted, nonfunctional, or destroyed.

Russian equipment continues to be destroyed or captured.

The only thing you left out is that the West, from Argentina to Canada, has one of the largest pool of untapped NG, Oil, and Coal. If D.C. Inc was concerned about keeping the Continental US safe, warm and happy, we could put up a border, and use tariffs to become both fabulously wealthy, and safe from invasion.

The above paragraph is a fantasy, because those who swore an Oath to the Constitution, hate those not in their “CLASS”. It is The Hunger Games, writ large.

Russia can lose that land. Quite easily. It gained it only since about 1700. And just like the Mongol khaganate, the Muscowite khanate will fall

This forum is filled with people who have no idea what an idea is, or what strict “Constitutional conservative” is.

The idea that the US can bully the world and its citizens, and pretend that it is a nation bound in common interests is a joke. We either withdraw from the hellish Empire and fix our own country, or we will die. Ukraine can hang for all I care, and that goes for any other nation not in our hemisphere.

Apparently you choose to deny what is in the public record: We carried out a coup against the duly elected Ukrainian government. Victoria Nuland was quite proud of herself for her part in it. YOU can accept or reject that critical piece of Ukrainian history.
