Will Ukraine Survive Intact?
American Thinker ^ | September 24, 2022 | Alexander G. Markovsky

Posted on 09/24/2022 8:57:59 AM PDT by Kazan

The war exposed Ukraine to two of her most critical vulnerabilities – questionable legitimacy and extreme nationalism. Legitimacy derives from acceptance and recognition. However, Ukraine’s neighbors Russia, Poland, and Romania do not accept their current borders with Ukraine.

###

After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, Ukraine got its borders within which she achieved independence and millions of Russians, Poles, Hungarians and Romanians were trapped in a newly created country.

The Ukrainian problem is greatly exacerbated by the fact that unlike pluralistic societies such as the USA, Canada, Switzerland, and Russia, which are tolerant of different cultures, religions, and languages, Ukraine is not. Unsurprisingly, devotion to pluralism proved not to be her forte. Even though the Kiev regime had no historical roots in the real estate it inhabited, it imposed Ukrainian rules and the Ukrainian language on non-Ukrainian people after declaring independence. It is worth pointing out that even in the Soviet Union, where Russian was the official language, the Ukrainian language and literature were compulsorily studied by everyone in Ukraine.

###

The territory of Ukraine is a mosaic of other people's lands. If we want to stop this insane war and ensure peace in Europe, instead of calling Russia’s sponsored referendum in Eastern Ukraine a sham, we should conduct an honest referendum in all the disputed territories under the auspices of the UN and let the people decide what government they want.

“I think the Oligarchs are more likely to influence him. They’re getting hit hard by the sanctions.”

Perhaps the ones who own McDonald’s and Starbucks, but the biggest complaint about this war in Russia was that it was taking forever. Whoever takes over next is not going to slow down, or surrender. Not happening.

Ukraine is going to fight to the death. It's a matter of national survival. So what's in it for the Russian conscript? I only see it ending with something happening to Putin or the possibility of Putin using nuclear weapons.

I heard yesterday that whole September 24 thing is based on an improper translation of the month by the translator.

Either that, or the speaker misspoke, as the full context of his remarks indicate he was referring to FEBRUARY 24, when the invasion began.

If the referendum idea is so good why don’t the Russians try it internally first. I suspect that Chechnya would like to be free of Russian domination and control.

Too bad the UN and NATO changed the rules over Kosovo

Thanks for telling us all that you are really a Russian or maybe a Serb, not an American.

So which is it?

Like Vietnam, conscripts don’t get to run wars, so that doesn’t matter. And keep in mind there is no “Canada” to run away to for Russian men (if they can even get out) - if they go to Europe, they’ll immediately feel the same way the Jews felt in Europe, in the 1930s - no one there will care why they fled - they’ll only care that they’re RUSSIANS.

But there is "Georgia" where many Russians have fled to.

Oh, yeah? The Ukrainian constitution specifically addresses such referenda, and it says that ALL citizens of Ukraine have the right to vote in them

Ludicrous. Now you’re concerned with Ukraine’s constitutional process?! Revolutions are fine, but you disenfranchised voters BETTER FOLLOW THE RULES!

It shouldn’t be forgotten it was the US Ukraine lobby who drove Trump Impeachment I

No, it was the usual deep state Obama/Clinton aligned CIA, DOD, and State Department hacks working with the Democrat party.

The deep state is tied in with the Ukraine lobby and they worked together against Trump. Col Vindaman , for example, the Ukraine-born guy who testified at the impeachment hearing

Perhaps someone who pays attention? It’s not my fault that you guys claim you can come up new rules for every situation.

And come to think of it, that sounds A LOT like what the media does - in the 1970s political spying was a “Constitutional Crisis”, now with Trump, it is “Perfectly Fine”

So who pays your bills?

Bob, The minute the US overthrew the democratically elected government of Ukraine in 2014 the Ukrainian Constitution ceased to be a relevant consideration for deciding issues of political obligation.

I’m amused by the storm of utterly mendacious stories that are being posted here to inflame the ignorant, antique prejudices of the thoughtless, incurious, and mentally diminished elderly.

Agree - it’s getting crazy here, questioning one’s nationality simply because they know some history.

If you care so much about Ukraine, if Ukraine keeps you up at night, why should I see you as any different than Biden, Pelosi, Cheney or McConnell? You certainly aren’t MAGA, you’re MUGA ( make Ukraine great again).

Hard to argue. Yes Russia crossed the border, illegally, but it’s not worth $1 trillion and possible nuclear war. They weren’t in NATO for a reason (many, actually).
