The COVID-driven rush of New Yorkers into Florida has turned into a stampede — with no end in sight.
A record-breaking number of Empire State residents switched their driver’s licenses to the Sunshine State version last month, according to a Post analysis of Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles data.
A total of 5,838 New Yorkers made the switch in August — the highest recorded number for a single month in history, the numbers show.
Year to date, 41,885 New Yorkers have handed over their licenses after moving south, a torrid pace that’s pointing to a new annual record.
Some observers had speculated that the outbound flow would ease with COVID receding and cities opening back up.
But the latest figures suggest otherwise.
Renowned fashion designer Alvin Valley moved his primary residence to Palm Beach during the pandemic and said the ongoing influx has been staggering.
“First it was the billionaires,” he said. “Then it was the rich following behind them. Now you have the middle class.”
Valley, who has already opened one Palm Beach boutique and has another in the works, said the Florida flight has been driven largely by quality of life concerns.
“A lot of families just began to feel like New York was becoming unlivable,” Valley said. “Especially for younger couples with kids in their thirties and forties. They don’t want to get on the subway. It’s a safety issue, it’s a schools issue.”
A retired NYPD Lieutenant who moved with his family to Jacksonville last year told the Post that New Yorkers still have a buffet of reasons to bid farewell.
John Macari blamed COVID-19 mandates, rising crime and unappealing schools for the continued departures.

I and all of my siblings moved out of WNY in the 1980s.
Most people in NYS north of Westchester County do not feel represented by the Albany state government. They would prefer if all of NYC and LI was a separate state.
This attitude is no different than how people in eastern WA state feel about the Seattle/Tacoma area. Most people in OR feel the same way about the Portland.
Even in Maine the majority of the people inland do not want to be associated with the liberals in Portland. Fortunately, they have divided their electoral votes accordingly. More states should do the same.
New York City is in fact a City State that controls the rest of the state and the people who long ago lost control of their own destinies
Deep State benefits when we assume the worst of our fellow countrymen and women.
That’s a bad habit we need to break ASAP.
As Franklin said/wrote...
“We must all hang together, or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately.”
“First it was the billionaires,” he said. “Then it was the rich following behind them. Now you have the middle class.”
You would think this sentence in the article would be concerning to the politicians in NYS.
They are going to run out of people to TAX.
How many people making $50K/year does it take to make up for the taxes paid by someone making millions? Don’t give me that crap about how the rich do not pay their fair share either. They pay at 2x-3x the percentage that the average person pays. Especially when you consider the taxes they pay on multiple vehicles, boats and multiple homes.
I hope it is a Red Flight! But, I can see why a Dem would leave the paradise they created in nyc to fix FLA.
Caribou, Maine wants to secede
And so it goes.
I’d like to see a source for the proposition that most of the emigrants are republican. I’m sure that is what Colorado thought as well until the influx of Californians turned that state deep blue.
Yup. And in part as a result, Florida is now a Republican state in terms of registration. In previous years, although Florida had more registered Democrats statewide, the Florida GOP won control of state government through better policies and superior political organization at the state level. Now, with GOP registration and grass roots activism on the rise, there is an opportunity to win control of more local governments.
Sadly yankees have discovered North Florida
or maybe the Republicans can take NY
Then he gestured out the window, toward the lights of New York. “When you see those lights go out,” said Galt, “then you will know that our job is done.”.................
True that !
Once you go thirty miles outside the city,
the politics change, except for two bastions upstate.
NY refugees are flooding Florida while California refugees are flooding Texas. Too keep tho populations of all four states stable, Florida and Texas need to transport equal numbers of illegal aliens to NY and California.
I remember Rush saying NY would not let him leave because they wanted his money.
When he moved to Florida he had to keep ATM receipts, credit card receipts, etc just to prove he was there.
They hated the man but loved his money.
Which is why the democrats are so anxious to get rid of the electoral college, so that New York City, LA, and a few other democrat controlled metropolitan areas can control the rest of the country.
Quote: “I think you’re right, Trump barely won Florida in 2016 but dominated Biden in 2020”
I tend to agree. Red flight is real. Are libs moving down there? Oh yah, sure they are, but the voter registration numbers in Florida speak for themselves.
So I’m relocating to the Treasure Coast (referring to housing prices) of Florida. Stuart and Jensen Beach are the most conservative places in the States I think.
I know a conservative Republican family who recently moved there. That’s one very nice family your state got. Surely there are many more.
