WW3 fears as Putin prepares to go all in on Ukraine: Russia paves the way for conscription and scrambles to annex Ukrainian territories, warning the West 'all forces' will be used to defend them

Vladimir Putin appeared poised to go all-in on his war in Ukraine today, sparking fears of an escalation in fighting that could drag in NATO and spark World War Three.

In a day of rapid-fire developments, Kremlin stooges in Ukraine's Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions simultaneously announced referendums on becoming part of Russia between September 23 and 27, with the sham votes expected to easily pass.

Dmitry Medvedev, a staunch Putin ally, then vowed 'all forces of self-defence' will be used to protect what he called 'Russian territory' - teeing up a new phase in the conflict involving weapons and tactics the Kremlin has so-far held in reserve.

Underlining that point, Moscow's rubber-stamp parliament passed new laws paving the war for Putin to end his 'special military operation' and officially declare a war, allowing him to mobilise Russia's massive population into the army.

It comes after Ukraine humiliatingly routed Putin's forces to the east of Kharkiv and recaptured a swathe of territory, with the despot's allies, propagandists and political hardliners calling for an escalation amid calls for the president to resign.

Putin was said to be preparing an address to the nation tonight, Russia's national broadcaster reported, without giving any further details.

Putin is insane. He wants to erase a nation of 40 million people. Normal people call this genocide.

It’s basically “our national language first”. I wonder if some of these bozos think US public schools should offer basic instruction in math and so on, in Spanish?

Disclaimer: I fully support a requirement of at least 4 years of classes to learn a foreign language(s) in middle - high school. I took 2 years of Spanish (required in middle school) and 2 years of German (requirement of a choice from German, French, or Spanish, in high school) and am quite certain it was excellent policy.) I almost proficiency tested myself into a minor in German when I started college.

Biden promised to us US ground forces to defend Taiwan, not just Naval ones.

Putin is a Communist. That alone tells what actions he will take.

Putin is a lot of things, a Communist isn’t one of them.

He would have served the Czar in the Okhrana, just as he served the KGB.

… I do not think Putin was a communist.

Do you have anything definitive you can share?

That is the historical banners. Russia doesn’t throw away their history like we do.

No.

But you are, based on this response, a psychopath and imbecile.

Your logic is that of communist acolytes.

Andrei Kartapolov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense, announced after Putin's speech was cancelled/postponed, that there will be no mobilization. That likely means no declaration of war. Russia will declare occupied territories to be annexed and thus "Russian soil". They appeared to introduce a new concept that “Wartime” is a period when a state conducts military operations with the help of its armed forces in one or more directions. Apparently "wartime" rules on military service can now be applied to the "Special Military Operation". They also introduced stricter punishments on soldiers who surrender or refuse to fight. What it means, IMO:

- Contract soldiers can no longer refuse to deploy, because it's no longer "foreign soil".

- Conscripts can be sent to annexed territories because again, it's now "Russia". Of course, it's pretty well documented that conscripts were already being sent...

- Russia can increase number of conscripts to either go to Ukraine as cannon fodder, and/or be assigned in Russia to fill in for contract soldiers so they can be forced to deploy.

- LPR/DPR soldiers will fall directly under Russian military authority. Their officers can be sacked and their soldiers told to go wherever Russia wants. There has been some push back from LPR/DPR forces sent to fight elsewhere.

Source is in Russian, so use browser or other translator if you want English.

Andrei Kartapolov: There will be no general mobilization in Russia

I really don't see this helping Russia much. With Putin's cancellation/postponement of tonight's speech, he might well be discussing and refining his plans.

I hope Putin declares mobilization. It’s going to be hilarious to watch the Vatniks freak out when their kids are drafted and their ATM cards and phones are shut off by the FSB before they’re shipped off to die in Ukraine. All according to plan.

Donbas has been shelled and bombed for 8 years by the Ukrainian army, told they could not speak Russian in public, denied Russian tv and books, given no services...Crimea had no water until Russia went there.

Ukraine was a failed state, huge unemployment, pensions taken away. Beatings on the streets by Nazi thugs for fun.

You don't actually believe any of that nonsense do you?

Every supposed "fact" you posted is false, and demonstrably so.

Just one particularly dumb example. If "Crimea had no water until Russia went there" how did all the people living in Crimea and vacationing on its beaches get by? Why did the Russians locate their naval base in a place with no water?

Perhaps you can explain to us what this woman and her children did to get killed by the Russian army. Was it the shirts they were wearing?

The picture shows Elena Stolpakov and her daughters Olesya, and Sasha. Mrs. Stolpakko's husband Dmitry was also killed, along with her parents. They all lived in Izyum.
