All have fallen for the believe that the Ukrainian rapid advance has caused a Russian defeat. That however is not the case.
The main Russian forces had already left the area. What was left were sentry guards of the Luhansk People’s Republic and a few companies of the Russian National Guard which is more or less a police force. That is why the ‘western’ official talking with Reuters is quite cautious with his assessment:
“There’s an ongoing debate about the nature of the Russian drawdown, however it’s likely that in strict military terms, this was a withdrawal, ordered and sanctioned by the general staff, rather than an outright collapse.” … “Obviously, it looks really dramatic. It’s a vast area of land. But we have to factor in the Russians have made some good decisions in terms of shortening their lines and making them more defensible, and sacrificing territory in order to do so,” the official said, adding he did not expect Russia to immediately seek to regain lost territory.

WW1 version 2.0
“The main Russian forces had already left the area.”
Well I guess if you drop your guns and run away leaving your tanks and artillery behind, you could say you had “already left” by the time the enemy advances.
” It’s understandable the mindset of denial coming from the Putinist crowd. Defeat is a tough pill to swallow.”
It’s not just defeat that spurs their denial. It’s their pride, their hubris. They believe they know 100% what is going on and everyone else has been duped. Same as the Qtards did. So of course they can’t accept it when reality fails to comport to their fantasies. Reality must be wrong, because they can’t be. If they were wrong, that would mean that all the people they’ve been calling fools for months and months might actually be right, and their pride cannot take that possibility.
Things are so screwed up now that it won’t be be over even after the fighting stops. How long before gas flows to Europe again, no matter who wins.
Y’know, this is in part because the Euroweenies bid to remove Assad in Syria failed. They wanted a pipeline from the ME that bypassed Russia, but Assad wouldn’t let it go through Syria because was a Russian client. The Euroweenies were idiots to alienate someone who supplied so much of their energy.
Ukraine swings fists at air, 6,000 of their soldiers dead. Big victory
Russian Officers killed in Ukraine 🇨🇿🇺🇦 @KilledInUkraine
1 160 killed Russian officers as of 15 September. Minimum confirmed losses. Confirmations are made via publicly available data, such as funeral notices, obituaries or Russian news sites.
Great Orwell quote—fits with my real world experience as well.
I am retired now—but I was a “subject matter expert” in a field that received a moderate amount of mass media coverage.
The articles got lots of facts wrong—quoted numbers and studies without understanding the assumptions behind them—and generally reached conclusions somewhere in the range of uninformed to stupid to ridiculous.
The root of the flaw in the modern journalistic enterprise is their sources—usually these are public relations flacks for large institutions with axes to grind. Even if those PR flacks knew factual information (which they usually do not) they would only presented data that supported the viewpoint they were paid to present.
Yes, I’m sure you’ll keep telling yourself that as reality continues to burst your fantasy bubbles.
Interestingly, Russia threatening to nuke us and our children does not make them an enemy in many minds.
“you refuse to acknowledge, even to yourself, that the “news” you use to support your position is driven by all of your enemies...”
Even the Russians have admitted their defeat in Kharkov. Nobody disputes it. Except, of course, fantasists like you clinging to their fantasies in the face of reality’s little intrusions.

You should have added the dateline: Moscow, Sept 15.

Just one of many that reported on these leaked Ukrainian documents put all over the net.
Unconfirmed leaked data from the Armed Forces of Ukraine General Staff:
- The AFU are only 43-48% complete;
- medical workers at the limit of their strength: the seriously wounded are transported to Europe;
- small arms and bulletproof vests are not enough;

This is backed up by other reports.
And Ukraine reportedly lost up to 12k soldiers in the last week taking an area the size of Rhode Island while Russia has taken more land recently in Southern Ukraine.
Ukraine has lost at least 50% of its regular, trained people, and had no choice but to go all-in on an offensive attack.

The Guardian, Democracy Now, and others reported that a mere 1,000 square kilometers were retaken by Ukraine, not Zel’s claimed 6000 sq km.
The BBC reported that about 1/5 of Ukraine has been conquered by Russia. So Ukrainians retaking 1k to 6k square kilometers of 1/5 of Ukraine turns out to be a paltry percentage (less than 1% to around 5% of what Russia has conquered) and especially paltry given that Russia has made recent advancements into areas of southern Ukraine.
Ukraine took back land the size of Rhode Island (as Russia took more land in the south) and Ukrainian leaders have said publicly they are “worried” if they can even keep it.

What Ukraine did was throw it’s most capable and well armed troops, that NATO had been preparing for months, into a small area of the front.
The Dive With Jackson Hinkle
Zelensky is hiding the truth in Ukraine
English-speaking NATO troops in Kharkiv?
The justification for this by neocons, if true, would be “Putin mean, Russia bad” akin to Clinton saying “Slobo mean, Serbia bad” or Obama saying “Gaddafi mean, Libya bad” to justify NATO involvement in those countries, which was against their defensive charter they attacking offensively and especially so since neither Serbia nor Libya attacked a NATO member.
These poor, poor Putinists just CANNOT cope with defeat.
Anybody with half a brain knows that “ordered” retreats don’t leave behind dozens of tanks, rocket launchers, armored vehicles, and weapon caches.
All the REAL evidence proves there was a chaotic fall back and no amount of pathetic coping can change that.
