Congress prepares to act on rail strike amid fears of ‘economic catastrophe’

Lawmakers are under pressure to avert a rail worker strike as soon as this week that would batter the nation’s economy just before November’s midterm elections.

Republican senators introduced a resolution to impose a new contract if negotiations between railroads and unions collapse, while Democrats say they would pass legislation to block a rail shutdown if necessary.

More than 115,000 rail workers will be legally allowed to strike on Friday.

The cooling-off period expires 30 days after the White House-appointed Presidential Emergency Board (PEB) released contract recommendations that call for 24 percent raises, back pay and cash bonuses.

The two largest railroad unions say their members won’t vote for a contract based on those guidelines, which don’t address concerns about strict attendance policies. Railroads haven’t budged from their push to ratify the P

Don’t the democrats feel strongly about union representation?

All of these politicians just shoot themselves in their feet.

This is the result of Biden's economic catastrophe.

Tis one element of the fallout, driving the downward spiral.

Team Biden will market this as a "cause", and it is not.

The union is reacting to the economic impacts of Biden's stupid policies.

This reaction will make things worse, which is why I call it a spiral.

“Just a reminder, inflation-adjusted wages haven’t risen for the average American worker in over 40 years”.
Inflation is an artificial aberration introduced by government, you may say the FED is not government, but it is certainly married to it..
it is a way of increasing taxes without increasing taxes.
A guy driving a train can’t do it any better or faster than his grandpa did, so he is no more productive than grandpa was. He may have different tools, but in the end he is not 50% better than his grandpa was.
So why give him 400% more money?

“So why give him 400% more money?”

Well, for one reason, if the money is worth 400% less, then you aren’t actually giving him any more money at all.

And there are reasons why his wage might rise independent of productivity. For example, a shortage of skilled labor to do the job.

What’s this “legally allowed to strike” business?

Who do these workers have to answer to? Feds?

Postal workers aren’t allowed to strike because they’re bound to “binding arbitration”.

Ask Trump, he’s the guy the party took a powder on. I’m glad your satisfied. Delusional, perhaps, but satisfied. If you are serious and want to enlighten yourself, binge read my posts. The Republican Party NEVER takes my advice. Look around, we’re living the consequence.

And if those 115k workers just decide not to show up, exactly WHAT do the Democrats plan to do? You can pass all the legislation you want, but it’s gonna be a bit difficult to make them all go to work. This should be interesting.

Republicans in Congress carefully read Sun Tzu—The Art of War—and then do exactly the opposite.

That is why we call them the stupid party.

Railways are a mess. I read a report a few weeks back that while they are running freight-hauling trains with only TWO PEOPLE on board, they want to cut that back to ONE!

ONE person running a freight train at high speed. Oops!

“...[a strike] would batter the nation’s economy just before November’s midterm elections.”

Well, Brandon HAS managed to screw the pooch each and every week when he’s not on vacation, so I’m counting on this! ;)

““We are working with other modes of transportation, including shippers and truckers, air freight, to see how they can step in and keep goods moving in case of this rail shutdown,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Tuesday. “

these people are SO incredibly ignorant and stupid!

there wouldn’t be 1/1000th the truck capacity to carry the bulk goods carried by railroads ...

When asked if railroad workers should strike once released from the “cooling-off” period required by the Railway Labor Act, 96 percent said they should.
