WASHINGTON—The war in Ukraine has depleted American stocks of some types of ammunition and the Pentagon has been slow to replenish its arsenal, sparking concerns among U.S. officials that American military readiness could be jeopardized by the shortage.
The U.S. has during the past six months supplied Ukraine with 16 U.S. rocket launchers, known as Himars, thousands of guns, drones, missiles and other equipment. Much of that, including ammunition, has come directly from U.S. inventory, depleting stockpiles intended for unexpected threats, defense officials say.
One of the most lethal weapons the Pentagon has sent are howitzers that fire high-explosive 155mm ammunition weighing about 100 pounds each and able to accurately hit targets dozens of miles away. As of Aug. 24, the U.S. military said it had provided Ukraine with up to 806,000 rounds of 155mm ammunition. The U.S. military has declined to say how many rounds it had at the start of the year.
In recent weeks, the level of 155mm combat rounds in U.S. military storage have become “uncomfortably low,” one defense official said. The levels aren’t yet critical because the U.S. isn’t engaged in any major military conflict, the official added. “It is not at the level we would like to go into combat,” the defense official said.
The U.S. military used a howitzer as recently as last week to strike at Iranian-backed groups in Syria, and the depletion of 155mm ammunition is increasingly concerning for a military that seeks to plan for any scenario.
The Army said the military is now conducting “an ammunitions industrial base deep dive” to determine how to support Ukraine while protecting “our own supply needs.” The Army said it also asked Capitol Hill for $500 million a year in upgrade efforts for the Army’s ammunition plants.

Poland alone has sent hundreds of tanks (some being used now in the Kharkiv offensive). Many countries sent Infantry Fighting Vehicles (including over 100 M113s from the USA). I don’t know if Eastern Europe provided any of their Com Block SRBMs or not, but they have provided fighter jets. Advanced UAVs have been included in announced packages from the USA, as have NASAM air Defense systems. Germany has provided Gepard mobile air defense vehicles, and the Ukraine has been getting real time alerting of intrusions of their airspace from AWACS and satellite.
As long as recruits are taught proper use of pronouns so they don’t misgender anyone it’s ok.

AMC really no longer exits. It became something called a total life cycle management agency when it moved to Redstone. Before it moved the HQ was a joke. For instance in spite of direct Army regs and Public Law HQ AMC had no command FOIA officer, the SGS consisted of one LTC and a captain, Personnel could not begin to estimate how many contractor personnel the command employed. Most real management of log functions and depots went to DLA, a command that bluntly stated it only used ‘business metrics’ for guidance. My suspicion is that wholesale logistics is just one of the many broken elements within DOD. A war with a peer competitor such as China would be very entertaining.

The NATO protection alliance from Russian invasion includes a lot of the countries that just somewhat recently escaped from Russia because of our efforts to free them, it isn’t surprising that we are all willing to at least supply materials to Ukraine’s fight for freedom as they are invaded by Russia.
Ukraine’s friends aren’t killing them, they are giving help to those brave people who are fighting against the Russian absorption of their nation.

The military used to be focused on warfighting and pay was low, but the warriors liked the lifestyle, that was before the march making it just another federal job for families, single moms, off-base living, everyone with a car, and eating off base, daycare, jogging shorts, etc.

That post is the first I have seen calling the pro-American/NATO supporters of the Ukrainian fight against the Russian invasion, the anti-war side, when being pro-war has up until now been the label for those supporting Ukraine in their fight against the Russians and their invasion, while the pro-Russians said peace would be in place if Ukraine would merely surrender and end the war, submit.
