Seven more Republican leaders have announced their endorsement for Pennsylvania's Democratic candidate for governor Josh Shapiro, following photos of GOP state Sen. Doug Mastriano wearing a Confederate military uniform.
This comes one month after nine Republicans vowed to support the Democratic candidate and called Mastriano an "extremist" who threatens American democracy.
According to a statement released by the Shapiro campaign on Tuesday, the group includes Michael Chertoff, the former US Secretary of Homeland Security under President George W. Bush, and Mario Civera, a former state representative.
Shapiro, the state's attorney general said he was proud to receive the endorsement from these GOP leaders "who are putting our Commonwealth ahead of partisan politics in order to come together and move Pennsylvania forward."
In the press release, Chertoff, the former US Secretary of Homeland Security said while he's a long-standing Republican, he is "deeply troubled by Doug Mastriano's embrace of dangerous extremism."
"Josh Shapiro, on the other hand, is a staunch defender of our democratic institutions and will lead Pennsylvania with honor and integrity. I am proud to support his campaign for Governor," Chertoff said.

So, like 16 republicans clutched their pearls and abandoned ship because of this? What pusillanimous twits.
“World’s shortest book: ‘Great Moderates in History’” - Rush Limbaugh
I sure do miss Rush.......we sure could use his wisdom in these times......sigh
He must be a racist if he wore a uniform in a reenactment.
I don't know what that one guy on the right is wearing but "it looks offensive" LOL
Dems in black face - no problem
Which is why I often say that we should be working to destroy them. Bankrupt their industries, destroy their monopolies, try to go after them with the force of law and make them fear us to the point where they don't want to be in the lie spreading business any longer.
The media is our enemy, and rather than trying to figure out ways to work around it, we should be and should have always been working on tactics and methodologies to destroy its power.
Repubs have two choices, they can win ugly or lose graciously. Most Repubs are very gracious losers.
To win PA, were going to need more than just the MAGAs support in the state. I will support both PA candidates with more $$ im afraid you will need to as well. Mastriano doesn’t have near the money at his disposal to defend himself as Shapiro does!
Even people on this site are willing to believe media lies and scurrilous accusations, and they are willing to believe them without any proof.
I said at the time that if you let the liars get away with this sh*t regarding Moore, they will use this tactic again and again. I believe it was only a few months later that they pulled the exact same lying tactic on Brett Kavanaugh, and I told people "I told you so."
Mastriano was / still is a Pennsylvania State Senator and former Army Colonel.
If goes the other way and apologizes, he's done.
I agree, and if he has any pictures of himself in a Union uniform, he should post those along side it for context.
Shapiro belongs to the actual party running the Confederacy and Jim Crow. Mastriano was just play acting in his uniform.
This comes from the same group that said Brett Kavanaugh was a serial rapist that would drug his rape victims.
Also, you left out the fact that these leftwing nutjobs also accused Moore of rape.
“Conservatives need to quit electing cowards.”
Hardly a coward. Mastriano is a retired Army colonel and now a state senator whose district includes Gettysburg, the site of the battle where the tide of the Civil War turned against the Confederacy. He volunteered to wear one of the uniforms that was a part of our history for the war college photo. That war ended over 150 years ago and was a war that totally was our own mistake. But as usual, the left is trying to misrepresent our history and attack those that understand it is a part of the history.
Take a look at who the article is coming from, MSN owned by Bill Gates, and business insider, controlled by Henry Bloget, a former NY Times contributor who was formerly found guilty of securities laws and though a civil trial conviction is permanently banned from involvement in the securities industry.
The major reason these ultra liberal agencies are after Mastriano is because if elected to governorship in November, Mr. Mastriano would appoint Pennsylvania’s top elections official. He has suggested de-registering all of Pennsylvania’s roughly nine million registered voters and requiring them to register again. I’m surprised his name isn’t on every post office bulletin board already by the liberals.
Instead they try to dirty him for posing for a picture for the war college that depicts our military members in US history for an historical picture. A huge effort to sell something that doesn’t exist.

I suspect Civil War re-enactments are profitable businesses in PA, and help educate the public about the war. And not just at Gettysburg. Kind of hard to have one if none of the actors dress up for the Grey side. So what Mastriano did was good for PA.
Did you miss the (supposed at the time) disclaimer I put on my posts? The fact was he was seen as a pedophile and did not properly defend himself. He also did not take the campaign seriously at all!
He needs to convince the voters! We know the truth...that needs to get out. I support Mastriano, even with $$$. I’m trying to convince people that Barnette would mot have won (she doesnt have the credentials that Masteiano has) and we need to get behind Oz as well!
Good point!
I now make a point to call them liars and assert that they make false claims at every opportunity. I urge people to simply dismiss anything they say as "lies" and unworthy of serious consideration.
It doesn’t work. People believe the media. If you are MAGA and plan to ever run for office in this environment, you CANNOT have skeletons in your closet. In Mastriano’s photo, he is the only one in CW garb and he chose to wear a confederate rather than union uniform!
