Actress Drew Barrymore is being accused of cultural insensitivity toward “black creators” for posting a video of herself enjoying the rain, which at least one critic says is an appropriation of the “black men frolicking” trend.
Many social media users were confused by the criticism posted by TikTok user amushroomblackly, who chastised Barrymore for the video clip by saying she was a “colonizer” who made it possible for millions of her followers to “dismiss and disrespect the boundaries that black creators have set.”
The TikTok user was upset because she saw Barrymore’s video as an extension of a TikTok trend called “black men frolicking.” It began with the user thexsadxoptimistic filming himself happily running through a field of flowers. The clip got shared on Mashable in May and quickly went viral, inspiring other social media users to copy him. It allegedly spread to black women as well.
Barrymore, meanwhile, shared a short clip of herself enjoying the rain while she was standing in what appears to be the courtyard of a city building. “Whenever you can, go out into the rain. Do not miss the opportunity!” she tells followers gleefully.
That clip also went viral, with fans of the 47-year-old former child star embracing her happiness after she had such a difficult upbringing. “Watching her heal her inner child makes me so happy,” one person responded to the clip, which boasts more than 21 million views on TikTok.
A previous video of hers from May also showed the actress enjoying getting wet in the rain.
Though Barrymore never said she was following the “black men frolicking” trend, the TikTok critic clearly believed she was. When critics came after her for responding too harshly to the actress, amushroomblackly doubled down and posted several more critical videos, reiterating her stance.
“When we say it’s racist, it’s racist,” she said during her reaction to Barrymore’s rain video.
And she’s not the only one taking issue with white people allegedly participating in the frolicking trend. Another user mentioned how only black content creators should be posting these types of videos, and that anyone who considers themselves “allies” should agree with that stance.
o be “If you’re a good ally, you know when to take a step back and re-evaluate your choices. And stop,” he said. “Let black people experience black joy with each other for once.”
What about Irish cloggers?
I think I see the problem. The TikTok user “amushroomblackly” needs to capitalize the “b” so that it’s “amushroomBlackly”.

No more speaking English. No more using video cameras.
I have no idea. Usually the only way to know if someone is actually racist is to know them very well. And I never even met the woman.
Is filming yourself playing in the rain racist?
No, it is, of course, not racist. Like 98% of the stuff labeled racist.
But the concept is weird. Why would you film yourself running outside in the rain?
Going outside to play in the rain I understand. It is even more fun if you have someone to go with you. But making a recording and showing everyone? Why?
Nice to see liberals, like Drew, get hoisted on their own petard. This is the world they helped to make.

Just as happy as a cow chewing on a cud
When the darkies beat their feet on the Mississippi mud.
I find this particularly irritating as like so much of liberalism this is diametrically opposed to reality.
Ive told a story here for different reasons that illustrates what I mean.
There was a small amusement park I frequented as a small child and, except for the years when I lived out of country, I have continued to visit since.
Thunderstorms are frequent here in the summer. When they would roll through all the rides shut down. The mostly veteran or farmer white fathers showed no sign of noticing except when one of them would hold their hand in the wrong position and the rain running off them would put out their cigarette. Moms and older girls would take out their little plastic rain bonnets and walk calmly to the nearest awning or nearby building to converse quietly. The boys and younger girls didnt care that the rides shut down as they were too busy stomping and playing in the rapidly rising puddles.
When the 80s arrived so did a larger number of people from farther away from a larger demographic. There was a distinct difference in some peoples behavior when it started to rain especially at the dawn of the age of jheri curl. When it would rain there would be screaming and hysteria. Some people frantically ran around yelling and stampeding and shoving as though they were about to be killed by some great beast and needed to escape.
At first many of the locals just stood there in wonder at what would provoke this extreme behavior but it didnt stay that way for long. Soon nearly everyone, visitor and local alike, was shrieking and fleeing the great rain beast when it would approach and plowed through anyone that stood in their way.
Today, when I bring someone there and it begins to rain, I simply sit on the nearest bench alone, except for whomever Im with, as cowering beady eyes stare out of every nearby building at us in wonder that we dare to bravely endure what is to happen next.
As far as recent frolicking, they really cant claim to have invented anything they went so far out of their way to destroy.
Several standard deviations to the left of the mean...
Soon nearly everyone, visitor and local alike, was shrieking and fleeing the great rain beast when it would approach and plowed through anyone that stood in their way.
If loincloth was good enough for their ancestors, then back to loincloth for
the black mxn.
None of the people criticizing get had better EVER roll their eyes, cause I’d consider that cultural appropriation from ME.
Chocolate Rain
Well then to run it to its final conclusion, all blacks must wear those African grass skirts since western wear is cultural appropriation by them.

Yep, the very white song-and-dance man, Gene Kelly, was the original “singer in the rain.” I guess these wokesters don’t know that.

To be fair he and Fred Astaire both got their moves from black dancers such as the Nicholas Brothers.
I wasn’t looking for the definition of ‘triggered’...
...but I found it.
