Every industry is being impacted by inflated costs, but retailers seem to be getting it the worst.
Retail Dive recently reported that according to recent report findings by Alignable, a referral network for small business owners, the industry is poised to lose more than half of their companies.
Per the findings, nearly half of small business owners, including 59% of retailers, shared they’re at risk of shutting down before winter, a jump from 12% from the 35% that said the same a year ago.
It looks even more troubling for minority-owned businesses (52% could be shuttered by fall) and women-owned businesses (53%). It looks like those in certain parts of the country are more susceptible to financial struggle. Small retailers in Colorado, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, North Carolina, California, Illinois, Florida, New York, New Jersey and Georgia, are at significant risk.

Good thing the “Inflation Reduction Act” got passed. Just in time!!!
“You will own nothing and be happy…”

About those “women-owned businesses”. If a woman starts identifying as a man, does she lose the special privileges and advantages over men that she had?
All part of reducing inflation.
This is tragic, but not unexpected. Big business took the side of leftist wokism on a wholesale basis several years ago, and it will not accommodate or tolerate dissension.
I usually try to patronize the small businesses over the big national brands in my city whenever possible.
The ma and pa burger joints are getting utterly hammered, and the prices reflect that. I still patronize them, but not as much.
The price of potatoes is not helping.
The sad part is the women running these “women-owned businesses” will vote themselves into bankruptcy over abortion.
I’m surprised it isn’t more actislly. THe governments shut society down for almost 2 years, causing many to go under or struggle to stay open, then eham, the left pile on sky high prices, and next they will pile on carbon taxes fines and regulations to boot. It’s pretty clear at this point that The governments hate small business
A buddy of mine has several gift cards from area restaurants. He is trying to use them up as quick as possible BEFORE they close down.
Minorities and Women hit hardest??? Gosh. I never expect to see the media focus on such a thing.
President Butt-Head: I DID THAT! Oh, and keep on the lookout for White Supremacy!
The collapse of the Dollar is most worrisome. If the Dollar ceases to be the World Reserve Currency, look out. No more printing money like it grows on trees.
All according to plan.
Just the big corporations will be left.
What a happy coincidence.
So says JASMINE BROWLEY whoever she is.
The Left sets the table for destruction then celebrates it as inevitable.
Let’s hope instead the Left is defeated and their destructive plans turn onto their own heads.
Retired from business after 50 years I can tell you it’s easier to run a business during great times and difficult during hard times. It’s during those hard times that you see who the real business people are.
It amazes me sentences like this get in the final copy. Not only is it factually wrong, it makes no sense grammatically. The dumbing down of America continues.
Yep! Demand Destruction is part of the agenda. Hope your small business sells essentials, cause there’s no cash for discretionary items.
Supply chain issues are a lot of the problem - inflated costs for goods and shipping that can’t easily be passed on to customers. This is especially hard on retail resellers who do not manufacture their own products - margins are thin already but COVID-era shipping and Bidenflation have simply rendered their business models unsustainable. A lot of long-time stores - even ones with loyal customers - are going to close soon because there are barely any profits to be made.
