Heavy Losses Leave Russia Short of Its Goal, U.S. Officials Say

The staggeringly high rate of Russian casualties in Ukraine means that President Vladimir V. Putin may not be able to achieve one of his key war objectives: seizing the entire eastern region of the country this year, officials in the Biden administration and military experts say.

With 500 Russian troops killed or wounded every day, according to the latest estimate by American intelligence and military officials, Russia’s war effort has decelerated to a grinding slog, the officials said.

Finland is joining NATO. NATO is on RuZZia’s border. Little Pukin is doing nothing about Finland.

Ukraine was never about NATO. It was/is about RuZZia refighting the Cold War, trying to rebuild the USSR.

If the Russians were winning, wouldn’t they have won by now?

That certainly begs the question, now doesn't it?

“Maybe you can cite us a battle where the Ukes provably eliminated 500 Russian troops?”

Sinking of the Moskva.

They won’t win The Ukes have them on the run at a couple of kilometers per day and pretty soon will push them into Poland.

And by invading Ukraine, Russia has forced Sweden and Finland to petition NATO for membership. Thus ensuring...you guessed it, NATO on Russias border! Genius move, Vlad.

“It was easy to predict the inevitable”

You must have missed all the posting from Jan/Feb when SO many on FR scoffed at an invasion.

200,000 troops may not even be enough to take Kyiv, alone.

Kiev didn't need to be taken. Just take over the surrounding areas, and Kiev would eventually surrender or be easier down the line.

Yeah, but, they weren't being logical. You don't amass 200k troops and many billions of dollars of equipment on the border of Ukraine, and then pull them back. That would have been a very expensive show of force for nothing.

It’s the middle of the third quarter and the Patriots are leading the Browns 42-13 with a first down on Cleveland’s 35 yard line. ESPN reports “Heavy Losses Leave New England Short Of Its Goal” — a ridiculous claim to anyone who is watching the game.

Nah. The Ukrainians were dominated by the Russians during the Soviet era. Putin has severely underestimated the fierce Ukranian resistance to his invasion. He thought that it would be more likely his seizure of Crimea (which is Russian so they wanted to be part of the Federation) in 2014.

...And I forgot to mention that Ukraine last month began conscripting men up to age 65, and may soon conscript women. Yep, it sounds like Kiev is really winning.

We turned out to be right because Putin did not have enough manpower or resources to properly invade Ukraine. That is from the satellite photos we saw in Jan/Feb.

Putin went crazy (or overconfident) and actually invaded Ukraine. We did not see that coming. Up until 2/24/2022, Putin never had made a mistake on that scale.

Then why hasn't Russia won?

We'll add Finland to Norway, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland which already bordered Russia.

I don’t put very much faith in what Jo Jo’s “U.S. Officials” say. They’re the ones pimping “climate change”.
