A new statement from Donald Trump's team amid the raid on his Mar-a-Lago residence stresses that the president had "the power to classify and declassify documents."
Just the News founder John Solomon read the declaration Friday night while appearing on Fox News' "Hannity."
"As we can all relate to, everyone ends up having to bring home their work from time to time. American presidents are no different," Solomon read. "President Trump, in order to prepare work for the next day, often took documents including classified documents to the residence.
"He had a standing order that documents removed from the Oval Office and taken to the residence were deemed to be declassified the moment he removed them," the statement continued. "The power to classify and declassify documents rests solely with the president of the United States."
Trump's statement also challenged the idea that "some paper-pushing bureaucrat" needed to approve the former president's document declassification, calling the proposal "absurd."
The new comments by Trump come amid his claims that former President Barack Obama kept over 30 million pages of documents, "much of them classified," Trump wrote in a short statement through the Save America PAC earlier on Friday.

Obamas EX Order provides a very strict procedure for decassifying documents in pargraph (a)
but
(b) Information originated by the incumbent President or the incumbent Vice President; the incumbent President’s White House Staff or the incumbent Vice President’s Staff; committees, commissions, or boards appointed by the incumbent President; or other entities within the Executive Office of the President that solely advise and assist the incumbent President is exempted from the provisions of paragraph (a) of this section
The catch that will need to be explained would be the bit about adding the lock. If declassified, no reason to lock it up.
Nevertheless, given the FISA fraud, 2 nonsense impeachments, and the blind eye given leftists, I consider any charge against Trump to be baseless and solely politically motivated.
I sincerely hope and pray that the Republican party realizes where they are these days, standing with a golden opportunity to just about totally destroy the entire Democrat party in both the remaining Mid-Term Elections, Primaries, and the actual, November 8th, 2022 Mid-Term Election.
The Republicans have to get a 100% backbone, dump the weaklings like Mcconnell, Cheney, Romney, and then go on the War path like a General Patton, tank attack against the both the Democrat Part and the enrie Media that supports them.
I again sincerely hope and pray that these weak Pubbies (Republicans)realize that the “NUTCASE” Democrats have handed the upcoming election in total to POTUS, Donald John Trump...Period!!!
Hiding Joe Biden, and his Navy Reject, Drug addict, Women abuser, Criminal, son Tucker in a South Carolina vacation, and the having their brain dead Attorney General, ,Merrick Garland make a 100% fool & Butt Wipe of himself is a political gift from Heaven. Folks...”Desperate people, do Desperate things....and Garland is the current King of Desperates...period!!!
Liste, Pubbies...destroy every Democrat, She or He using your votes to remove all of them from public office and you will ,save this great Nation Republic!!! Remember, Pubbies, the Lord, God Almighty, Jesus Christ helps those that help themselves...peiod!!!
Go Trump, Go Trump Go Pubbies...dump Mcconnell..the weak dude and then go out get those votes out on the remaining upcoming primary elections and then the Mid-Term Elections on November 8th,2022. Do it!!!
“”He had a standing order that documents removed from the Oval Office and taken to the residence were deemed to be declassified the moment he removed them,” the statement continued. “The power to classify and declassify documents rests solely with the president of the United States.””
That policy doesn’t seem to make sense. If he took home the list of all undercover CIA agents working in China that document is automatically declassified and could legally be broadcast by CNN?
He already explained it. THEY (The FBI) requested the lock. You don’t just need to lock up classified stuff. They can be used to keep people out or to prevent theft.........
Who had the key and/or combination to the lock? If it wasn’t Trump, then there was nothing he could be doing with those “classified” docs. Obviously lots of questions that still need answers.
I think they’d listen to us more if we told them, in no uncertain terms, that we’d primary them and/or not vote for the next 3-4 elections if they don’t get behind Trump in 2024. They don’t want the gravy train to come to a screeching halt.
Why would he be talking to CNN? And why would the CIA give him such a detailed list in the first place? I think you’re grabbing at straws here.
The rot starts in DC.
Actually...that is just what Trump is doing in the primary elections....getting rid of the “RINOS”....and he is doing a pretty decent job of cleansing the Pubbies of the Trasitor RINOS like Liz Cheney. Her fifteen moinutes of fame die next Tuesday when she gets wiped off the political map for good!!!
God Bless POTUS, Donald John Trump!!! Go....TRUMP!!!
One problem: President Trump’s authority ended when he left office.
Biden could reclassify everything and then prosecute Trump for posession of classified material.
TDS lives on!
Take it up with the supreme court. They already ruled a president can declassify anything he wants.
That doesn't follow, and I don't believe it's the case. I've never heard the concept of "re-classifying" information--have you? Would that mean everyone in the U.S. (or the world?) who had heard a fact when it was de-classified was suddenly forbidden to share it with anyone? Or maybe he would be forbidden to know it? Would he have to return to some government entity all copies in his possession? Maybe he would have to return parts of his brain that remembered the forbidden knowledge.
What if the information has already been printed in published books--which is probably true in this case? And hey, what if a President classified the Bible?
No. De-classification is a one-way process, by definition. You can't classify the west wind, and no law can require you not to utter what is universally known.
“they don’t want Trump to be re-elected. They’re perfectly happy in the minority.”
Exactly right.
“Why would he be talking to CNN? And why would the CIA give him such a detailed list in the first place? I think you’re grabbing at straws here”
You missed the point. I was giving an extreme example of why a policy of automatically declassifying any document a President brought to a non White House residence would be unwise. I doubt that Trump would have such a policy. Some documents need to remain classified wherever they are.
It is futile to try classify information which has been broadly disseminated, true. But that does not apply to docs that someone has, but has not yet published.
Declassification in Reverse - The U.S. Intelligence Community’s Secret Historical Document Reclassification Program
https://nsarchive2.gwu.edu/NSAEBB/NSAEBB179/index.htm
Washington, D.C., February 21, 2006 - The CIA and other federal agencies have secretly reclassified over 55,000 pages of records taken from the open shelves at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), according to a report published today on the World Wide Web by the National Security Archive at George Washington University. Matthew Aid, author of the report and a visiting fellow at the Archive, discovered this secret program through his wide-ranging research in intelligence, military, and diplomatic records at NARA and found that the CIA and military agencies have reviewed millions of pages at an unknown cost to taxpayers in order to sequester documents from collections that had been open for years.
The briefing book that the Archive published today includes 50 year old documents that CIA had impounded at NARA but which have already been published in the State Department’s historical series, Foreign Relations of the United States, or have been declassified elsewhere. These documents concern such innocuous matters as the State Department’s map and foreign periodicals procurement programs on behalf of the U.S. intelligence community or the State Department’s open source intelligence research efforts during 1948.
Yes. The court cases would back that up. The power to declassify something rests with the POTUS. He’s the commander in chief. If Trump declassified something, then its declassified.
and yes previous presidents have kept various documents for their presidential libraries, etc. They and the national archives have often butted heads about what they could keep and what needed to be returned. None of them have ever had their homes raided by the FIB because of it.
