WNBA star Brittney Griner was sentenced to nine years in prison on Thursday after a Russian court found her guilty of drug smuggling with criminal intent. Her sentence also includes a fine of 1 million rubles.

President Joe Biden is calling on Russia to "immediately" release Brittney Griner. The president released a statement shortly after Griner was sentenced to nine years in prison on charges of drug smuggling by a Russian court Thursday.
"Today, American citizen Brittney Griner received a prison sentence that is one more reminder of what the world already knew: Russia is wrongfully detaining Brittney," Biden said in a statement.

Based on the comments by some others, like Briana Taylor, perhaps they should show solidarity by flying into Russia with the same vape cartridges Griner did.
Or better, Biden can declare Griner's detention as an act war and send in the troops.
The question now is how many damn fools will take drugs with them when they go to Russia?
I suspect there is a reduction in the number...............
I’d wager she/he would really love to hear the National Anthem right about now.
And they could make her disappear. Which is what will probably happen anyway.
He still doesn’t give a rip about this country.
I’m just waiting for the inevitable movie that they make about her “ordeal” in Russian prison. Might be as good as “Midnight Express”!
The America hating dyke got what she deserves. I hope she spends every minute of every day at hard labor in Siberia. Serve the bitch right.
$16,129.00 = 1 million rubles........................
Bidet—”Russia is wrongfully detaining Brittney”
Yeah, because smuggling drugs into a foreign country is OK and the country is really mean if they do anything about it.
;-)
Following her Thursday conviction on drug charges in Russia, WNBA star Brittney Griner will not be getting special treatment in a fancy jail. Instead, she is being sent straight to a Russian penal colony.
According to The New York Times, a Russian judge convicted Griner on charges of attempting to smuggle illegal narcotics into the country.
She received a nine-year sentence, and unlike in the United States, Griner will not be guaranteed safety from cruel punishment.
“Corrective labor colonies” are the most common type of prison in Russia, Unherd reported. But that does not mean they are a walk in the park.
In fact, the outlet described these penal colonies as “a place where the authorities can act with impunity, free to torture prisoners in the hope of extracting a false confession.”
The only flag she will salute is the rainbow flag—too bad they won’t have any available in Siberia.
GRINER was guilty, and BIDEN was willing to trade a dangerous criminal for her.
That being said, where’s the all out effort to bring back innocent Americans in Afghanistan?
So will they send her to a male or female prison?
I’ve been asking that question for months. Google doesn’t have an answer. I assume the Russians will find out for sure.
Some countries in southeast Asia give you the death penalty for bringing drugs into their country. She got off light.
Brittney Griner ‘won over’ Russian prison guards and inmates, and they reassured the WNBA star as she finished her trial
Post of the day! Bwahahahahahaha! They should put him in a male prison.
Is it a she or a he? I've read it's "transgender", so I don't even know what it is.
And yes, *IT* broke the law. *IT* is a stupid bitch, even if *IT* is a guy.
Black athlete thinks laws don’t apply to them... Finds out the truth the hard way.. Ooops..
Leave her there. Nobody will miss her.
A top White House official slammed Russia in a CNN interview Saturday for attempting to tack on an additional convict — a murderer who was tried, sentenced, and imprisoned in Germany — to the United States’ proposed prisoner exchange of Griner and Whelan for notorious arms dealer Viktor Bout.
