Pope says genocide took place at Church schools in Canada for indigenous children

Pope Francis said on Saturday that what happened at residential schools that the Roman Catholic and other Christian Churches ran to forcefully assimilate Canada's indigenous children was genocide.

The pope made the comment while flying back to Rome after a week-long trip to Canada, where he delivered a historic apology for the Church's role in the policy. read more

He was asked by an indigenous Canadian reporter on the plane why he did not use the word genocide during the trip, and if he would accept that members of the Church participated in genocide.

"It's true that I did not use the word because I didn't think of it. But I described genocide. I apologised, I asked forgiveness for this activity, which was genocide," Francis said.

"I condemned this, taking children away and trying to change their culture, their minds, change their traditions, a race, an entire culture," the pope added.

Between 1881 and 1996 more than 150,000 indigenous children were separated from their families and brought to residential schools. Many children were starved, beaten and sexually abused in a system that Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission called "cultural genocide". read more

The schools were run for the governments by religious groups, most of them Catholic priests and nuns.

"Yes, genocide is a technical word but I did not use it because I did not think of it, but I described .... yes, it is a genocide, yes, yes, clearly. You can say that I said it was a genocide," he said.

I am not too familiar with Candian history. To the extent indigenous children were mistreated at the residential schools, that was wrong. But it was not "genocide". The goal was not to exterminate a race as Hitler did. I think the Pope is slandering people.

There was a claim of genocide and mass graves. The problem was that they didn’t exist, there was a just a claim, no proof.

Every time he opens his mouth, he opens old wounds, stirs up bad memories and causes discontent. He should’ve stayed home and . . . do whatever he does . . quietly.

I don't believe it. Diseases among children spread quickly and few solutions were available. It's not like these children didn't have parents. Burying them here at the school was likely helpful to the parents and friends.

One of our major cemeteries has a children's section that few know about.

Hmm. That would be a bad thing.

Does he mention the multi multi millions killed in the ongoing genocide of abortion? Making any notation that it has been declared that the US Constitution does not after all condone or allow abortion?

No

How strange.

I am not too familiar with Candian history.

I’m familiar with this Communist Pope. Genocide? Missionaries went out to convert the Indians as part of the churches wishes and teachings! No genocide! The Communist Pope is taking the Catholic religion down as surely as the Democrat Communists, in this country, taking us down!

I don’t believe the Popes statements can be authenticated. He is accepting myths as facts.

Weakening he meaning of “genocide.” Leftists have no values so all words that denote things we regard as bad have, to them, only one meaning i.e. and that is incorrect for which “bad” is the synonym. There are no gradations of bad so all words the rest of us use to describe different things that are bad mean only “bad.” Words are used for effect and as the effect of one hyperbole wears off then a more extreme (to normal folks) word must be used but the meaning is the same.

Pope says genocide took place at Church schools in Canada for indigenous children

Then Pope Frank should Excommunicate Justin Trudeau and bar his entry to the Vatican.

The Pope is either ignorant about the facts, and should get the facts before he speaks, or he knows he is wrong but does not care, his politics comes first.

It was proven their was no genocide. What graves were found occurred over many many years and reflected the natural deaths of children that fell ill, as happened, over the many many decades.

People today have missed out on the education of how, in earlier times, many many people died in circumstances they would not die in todays times, for numerous reaons due to many different advances society has made.

The pope is a Jesuit/Marxist and like all Marxists has it in for western society and culture.

Marxists in Christianity are trying to destroy Christianity from within.

Tell us Frankie boy. Why is that OUR problem? Like slavery, WE had nothing to do with. Why the hell are you blaming us. You take care of it.

Yet the pope doesn’t say a word about the guy who showered with his daughter and touches or sniffs every little girl he comes in contact with.

Knowing this pope, he’s using something that happened a long time ago to promote reparations from Canada to “indigenous” people. (Descendents of the people who were wronged.)

Then the democrats in the USA will use Canada as justification for reparations here in the USA.

Catholic Church, let me introduce you to this wrecking ball. I know you
thought it was a Pope. Don’t be misled. It sort of looks like a Pope, but
when you hear loud notices and see stuff flying, just take my word for it
and run.

I’m not sure what stage we’re in here, the healing process and all. Maybe it’s more appropriate than I think.

This guy seems to have the bedside manor of an axe murderer.
