The man who drunkenly attacked the Republican candidate for governor in New York was photographed being taken into custody by FBI, state and county police Saturday on federal assault charges, after being immediately released following the attack under the state's bail reform laws.
David Jakubonis, 43, an Army veteran, was arrested after allegedly attacking Zeldin with a $10 cat keyring weapon at the congressman's Thursday campaign rally for state governor, outside of Rochester, New York. He was released hours later.
But on Saturday, DailyMail.com cameras saw Jakubonis taken into custody by FBI, New York State police and deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
A six-car motorcade pulled into Jakubonis' apartment complex a little before noon on Saturday and left with Jakubonis in custody 15 minutes later.
He's set to make his first appearance in court Saturday afternoon in front of US Magistrate Judge Marion W. Payson.
A spokesperson for the US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York confirmed the details to DailyMail.com.

Impossible. I’ve been told by all the commie scum at DU that this was a false flag inside job and totally fake.
It might still be fake and just a means to strengthen federal authority.
Were there 376 of them?
So is (p)resident 💭 gonna give him a medal of freedom? AKA “fweedumb” in kamalese.
A lady’s self defense keychain. Possibly the lamest assassination weapon ever.
When the feds get involved it only makes this incident murkier than ever.
It makes you wonder if the guy who attacked Zeldin has fed connections?
The feds what a great job they have done regarding January 6th.
Medal of Freedom awards only goes to those who bomb white churches.
Why is this a federal offense?
You can see in these photos and videos that Zeldin defended himself as an army veteran should. New York Times and others insist on ignoring this fact, as it makes Zeldin look good to anyone, right or left.
New York Post today pointedly shows Zeldin taking the first crucial steps to stop the guy.
Glad the feds stepped in on the perp. Outrageous. Bragg would have like to arrest Zeldin.
Well, they need to expand the list of acts eligible.
Because he attacked a sitting Congressman.
L
The legalese shakes out that Lee Zeldin is a member of the House of Representatives.
Hence a federal rap.
Zeldin is a congressman.
Federal control of elections.

Not at all, it’s really a very effective concealed stabbing weapon. The ears are about an inch and three quarters long and are sharpened on the inside so that it can go very easily into a victim’s neck and be used very quickly to cut his carotid artery. Also, being made of resin, it’s undetectable by an ordinary metal detector and is not likely to be spotted as a weapon. That’s what would enable any perp to get very close to his potential victim. Here’s a picture of one of them that’s currently advertised:
Only if he had a noose for Zeldin
Because it hit the national news. Attempted murder, on stage, of a NYS conservative candidate and the cops let him go, without bail, on his own recognizance.
Furthermore, the cops who arrested him considered him mentally unstable, and they let him go.
Still furthermore, the candidate who was attacked predicted this would happen, that he would go free within hours, and he was right.
That didn't look too good for the liberal NYC judicial system. A little Soft on Crime, maybe? Or a little biased against conservatives?
Kinda sounds like a meme every conservative candidate could camp out on forever, or at least until after the midterms.
This is why they had to pop him, it's BAD OPTICS.
I don’t think that today’s Army is allowed to carry real fighting knives.
