Oregon voters will decide this fall on a proposal that would require a permit for gun purchases and ban magazines higher than 10 rounds, except for current owners, law enforcement and the military.
Initiative 17, the Reduction of Gun Violence Act, has surpassed the minimum number of signatures required, 112,080, Oregon Secretary of State Shemia Fagan's elections division said Monday, Fox News reported.
If approved, an applicant for a gun permit would be required to complete an approved firearm safety course, pay a fee, provide personal information, submit to fingerprinting and photographing and pass a criminal background check.
The National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action condemned the initiative, saying on its website that "these anti-gun citizens are coming after YOU, the law-abiding firearm owners of Oregon, and YOUR guns."

In my research on MASS, it seems that they require a permit to purchase a gun.
Do they, are that much different from Oregon’s proposal?
Have the signatures been validated?

Yep. Oregonians would have to join with 2/3 of the people of other states to do what’s on their ballot.

Constitutionally protected rights are not decided by majority votes. That is the purpose of the constitution- to protect the God given rights of all from government and idiot ignorant majorities.
Washington State Senate Bill 5078 is the new law regarding the high capacity magazines. Sir_Ed - I think you are conflating the law passed a year or two ago that makes “transfers” of guns illegal without the proper forms and background checks which was sold to the voters to prevent personal sales between people.
It does that, but also makes it illegal to allow somebody else to shoot your gun if you are out in the woods, or even at a gun club. At a gun club you can let your child under 18 years old shoot your gun. You can’t let your adult child shoot it though, and I’m pretty sure your spouse can’t either. (Yeah, it’s nuts. It doesn’t seem to stop the guys trying out somebody’s new gun at the trap range.)
High capacity magazines are still allowed to be carried anywhere, can be concealed, you don’t need to have a receipt for them - they just can’t be sold, imported or TRANSFERRED in the state. So - it would be illegal to TRANSFER a high capacity magazine to your buddy to shoot! Even if you are standing right there!
Here in Washington state we also have these voter referendums. Or what I call “mob rule”.

Iām in a coastal county. Trump carried it. Republicans have carried it since 2000. The counties to the north and south are probably about the same.
