Oregon voters will decide this fall on a proposal that would require a permit for gun purchases and ban magazines higher than 10 rounds, except for current owners, law enforcement and the military.
Initiative 17, the Reduction of Gun Violence Act, has surpassed the minimum number of signatures required, 112,080, Oregon Secretary of State Shemia Fagan's elections division said Monday, Fox News reported.
If approved, an applicant for a gun permit would be required to complete an approved firearm safety course, pay a fee, provide personal information, submit to fingerprinting and photographing and pass a criminal background check.
The National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action condemned the initiative, saying on its website that "these anti-gun citizens are coming after YOU, the law-abiding firearm owners of Oregon, and YOUR guns."

Unconstitutional. And unlike the “right” to abortion, the constitution is clear: Shall not infringe on the right to bear arms.
Oregon,,,
Drug sanctuary but
No guns.
I see the Problem.
If anywhere doesn’t need guns, it’s safe, lunatic-free Oregon…
It will still have to grind through the corrupt judicial system for years ...
Yes, an electoral college system for the state.
I don’t see how this can stand if passed given the recent SCOTUS ruling.
I hear there's a 78 minute waiting period before law enforcement can use its weapons, also.
But only if children are in danger.
I think this is the only way to nullify big city vote fraud by Dems.
well, as long as the NRA ‘condemns it’... How bout taking it to the SC? fighting it all the way?
That will boost sales from now to the election!
If I were still a Firearms Manufacturer this would be great news for me until the new unconstitutional infringements took effect.
By then I might have made enough to comfortably retire.
Expect the next vote to be imposing “Ex-Post’Facto” confiscations.
Apparently these lunatics WANT blood!
citizens don’t get to decide if they like a constitutional, and more importantly, an inalienable right or not-
Well, now they have another excuse to send you two letters a week begging for more money.
Will they start kicking in doors to confiscate the ‘illegal’ weapons?
The people on the Democrat Party State Committee who write up the "election results" will decide what happens to this legislation. And the US Constitution will not restrain them.
Stupid... But I’m also getting really sick of law enforcement and military exemptions. Its time they be treated equally.
Man, Gottlieb’s SAF lawsuits will be flying!
Think I’ll send them a few more bucks for the cause...
I agree, but don’t see how such laws could ever be passed because of the existing big-city population imbalances. Such a law would have to be in effect already to have a chance at passage.
Maybe in one or two high-profile cases, "pour encourager les autres". And they will have reporters standing by to film the drama.
For the high volumes they expect later, they will just levy huge unpayable fines, shut off your bank accounts, get you fired, and reduce you and your family to destitution. You can appeal, but the legal fees will bankrupt you even if you "win".
I do not believe this conflict will solved in the courts or by elections. It may not go as well as the sponsors hope either. The opposition always has a say in the outcome.
IIRC a while back we discusse the amount of +10 magazine sales in Oregon. Or maybe it was Washington. In either case, it looks like millons of +10 mags will grandfathered in.
