Stephen King praises war criminal Stepan Bandera as a 'great man' during call with Russian pranksters

World-renowned author Stephen King, best known for the “Shining” and “Carrie,” was duped by Russian pranksters into believing he was in a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, where he expressed his admiration for holocaust architect and war criminal Stepan Bandera.

The pranksters Vovan and Lexus reported the video call with the U.S. author and outspoken liberal in an undated video published this week.

King, who appears in a pro-Ukraine hat and t-shirt expresses his admiration for the Ukrainian president and Bandera after the pranksters bring up his name in the call.

“They are people who really love Ukraine. It’s not Nazis. It’s Azov,” says one of the pranksters, referring to the neo-Nazi paramilitary organization, Azov Battalion. “Of course they love some people like [Stepan] Bandera, our national hero. So what do you think of Bandera?”

“He was in the Second World War, and he fought against the Soviet Union,” the prankster continued. “But, yeah, he had some crimes, but it’s not so big crimes. It’s of course [accidental], [they were] were crimes against Jews. But it’s really important to keep him opposed to Putin and his propaganda.”

“Well yes, I mean there are always… you can always find things against people to pull them down,” replied King. “Washington and Jefferson were slave owners. That doesn’t mean they didn’t do many good things for the United States of America.”

“There are always people who have flaws – we’re human,” King continued. “There are things that we do that are bad choices, and there are things that we do that are great choices. So, on the whole, Bandera is a great man and you’re a great man. And Viva Ukraine.”

Earlier this year, Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland expressed her solidarity with Ukraine while marching alongside a group of Ukrainian neo-Nazi Banderites. She was photographed holding up a red and black scarf tied to the Banderite movement.

During the 1940s, Bandera led the Organization of Ukrainian nationalists, which was directly involved in the massacre of up to 60,000 Poles during WWII, killing around 133,000 ethnic Jews, Poles, and Russians in the region. More than a million Jews were killed in Ukraine during the Holocaust.

Ukraine supporters being tricked by what they hear? Many such cases. Sad!

King defended some things Washington & Jefferson did? Talk about drawing incoming. Not to mention we have an entire nest of neo-Nazi Banderites right here.

Is this the same Stephen King who opposed Trump that admires a holocaust architect war criminal? It adds up, doesn’t it?

Bought Carrie for my daughter one Christmas. Didn’t know who King was and “Carrie” seemed innocent enough.

Stephen King was always a mindjob, this video just reinforced it.

“Not to mention we have an entire nest of neo-Nazi Banderites right here.”

I really don’t think those people have the slightest idea who Bandera was. If some “fact checker” tells them that that it’s false that Neo-Nazis have played a major role in Ukraine, both in the government and the UFA, since 2014, then, by golly, it must be “Russian propaganda” if it’s pointed out. I think “intellectually lazy”, “too old to learn new things”, and “gullible” is probably more accurate. Underestanding the NeoNazi movements in Ukraine is simply to conceptually difficult and too much work for them. Denial is ever so much easier.

This is such bullsh!+ propaganda. What they found in King is the same reluctance to call someone who is friendly out on saying something evil. It’s the same thing Borat does as his entire persona, ironically posing as someone from another Soviet breakaway Republic.

Politically, Steven King is a prick. But my guess is that he knows no less and no more about Bandera than what he was told by these pranksters.

People, especially leftists, are so arrogant, they wouldn’t stop to think for even one second - “why in the world would Zelensky call me?”

Those two founding fathers did what was a part of history and human civilization in their time -- until it was not? That's like saying a queer or LBGTXYZ person was degenerate in 1970. Right?

We do indeed have a host of Banderites here. The woke/shame/virtue signaling only goes so far, you know :-).

Unrelated to the Kind incident, but Borat tens to mock people on the right, Americans, and Christians. A truly vile man who uses his comedy for political purposes (like many of the left).

You forgot to put “comedy” in quotation marks when referring to Borat.

You are correct about Banderites being truly neo-Nazis. But if there are white supremacists in America, does that mean that Trump is a white supremacist? Poroshenko was a criminal and sought to punish the breakaway Republics so badly that no-one else would seek to break away. As such, I don’t know how they can ever be made part of Ukraine again. But Zelenskyy is not Poroshenko.

But Bandera was a ‘Good Nazi’, because he killed Russians.

...or something like that.

“But if there are white supremacists in America, does that mean that Trump is a white supremacist? “

Only if Trump also brought them into his government...which would only be true if you think Bannon is a ‘white supremascist’. I don’t think he is.

The idea that anyone can find a significant number of “white supremecists in the US is a woketard/media myth used to keep the racism hustle going. In contrast, the NeoNazis (Avoz, Right Sector, Svoboda, OUN, etc.) have played a significant role in the coup governments and the successor coup governments. They have had major cabinet postiions, and the NeoNazi militias were integrated into the UFA. Nothing like that is the case in the US.

I agree with your assessment of Poroshenko, but Zelensky’s being “different” is more media image than reality. As it is, he appears to be subtlely giving away Galicia to the Poles (we’ll see if that really plays out). He has also run an authoritarian regime that is willing to use the UFA as cannon fodder to delay the inevitable day of reckoning. The UFA has almost no professional soldiers left in the Donbass, and the territorials and conscripts that are left can’t possibly hold the Seversk/Bakhmut line or the Slavyansk/Kramatorsk line. The Russians are likely to make a settlement offer within the next month. Zelensky had better take it, unless he volunteers to go to the frontlines and endure the incessant bombardment he is forcing what’s left of the Donbass elements of the UFA to endure.
