Kamala Harris Would Beat Ron DeSantis in 2024 Election: Poll
Newsweek ^ | ON 7/8/22 AT 9:20 AM EDT | DARRAGH ROCHE

Vice President Kamala Harris would defeat Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in a hypothetical 2024 presidential match-up, according to a new poll, but the race would be extremely close.

A poll from the Harvard University Center for American Political Studies (CAPS) has found that Harris enjoys 39 support to the Republican governor's 37 percent in a theoretical contest.

However, those numbers are very tight and the Harris poll found that a significant 23 percent of respondents were undecided between DeSantis and Harris.

The poll showed Trump defeating both Biden and Harris in hypothetical 2024 contests. Trump had 43 percent support to Biden's 40 percent, with 17 percent undecided.

In a theoretical race against Harris, Trump performed even better, garnering 45 percent to Harris' 39 percent with 16 percent of respondents undecided.

Harris getting the same 39% number against Trump. That number showing up twice is more of an indication of her electoral strength in general.

But she wouldn’t beat the Democrat field, so the point of this poll is what exactly?

Shows that Desantis is really a weak candidate. He is not as known and popular as the mythology pushed around here suggests.

Trump: 4 more in '24!!!

Half the people polled - at least half - still don’t know who DeSantis is.

It shows Harris is a weak candidate and DeSantis is not fully known. Nothing more...nothing less.

Two solid terms as Florida governor, and DeSantis is a shoo-in in 2028. But if he runs and loses in 2024, he may never get another chance.

I’m not worried. I don’t believe these numbers, but even if true, this is a pretty weak showing for an incumbent.

DeSantis would pick up two-thirds of the undecideds, as well as a fair number of “shy Tories” (people who may proclaim they’re voting for the woman of color so they are not pariahs in their woke social and work circles, but vote their conscience behind the curtain).

Desantis gets crushed in the general election if he runs in ‘24. He is too smart to do that.

Yep, the risk/return isn’t there, especially with a young family and his wife still recovering from Cancer.

A Harris poll about Harris cannot be valid.

I have watched DeSantis up and close coz I live in Florida.
He is very quick witted on the stump and tough with media. But he lacks name recognition outside of Florida. He is a young man and should wait until 2028. But DeSantis should run in 2024 for a short time to gain name recognition and then bow out gracefully to Trump. That will benefit both Trump & DeSantis.
