Rep. Adam B. Schiff, chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, wants a defense policy bill to include language blocking Congress from oversight of the military and National Guard in some cases of domestic deployment.
The amendment is poised to be added to the National Defense Authorization Act, which the House plans to take up this week, and it has drawn criticism from Republicans who fear Mr. Schiff is trying to preemptively block them from oversight if their party wins the House majority in November elections.
“This un-American amendment will fundamentally and irreparably erode Congress’ constitutional oversight responsibility,” Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, a member of the Armed Services Committee and chairwoman of the House Republican Conference, told The Washington Times. “House Democrats led by Adam Schiff are attempting to cover up for the national security crises of the weakest commander in chief in U.S. history.”
The exemption from congressional oversight is narrowly focused on the domestic deployment of troops, but Mr. Schiff’s free pass for the Pentagon could impact a range of oversight from border security to the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

So when the Demoncrats want to send out the military to quell peaceful civilian protests they don’t have to notify Congress what they are about to do?
Democrats like changing the rules to suit their needs. When the rule they just created, comes back to bite them on the ass, they claim it’s unfair, and want to change it again. They’re little kids, who have to repeatedly stack the deck, so they always come out on top.

The Posse Comitatus Act is a United States federal law (18 U.S.C. § 1385, original at 20 Stat. 152) signed on June 18, 1878, by President Rutherford B. Hayes which limits the powers of the federal government in the use of federal military personnel to enforce domestic policies within the United States. The Act was passed as an amendment to an army appropriation bill following the end of Reconstruction and was updated in 1956 and 1981.
What Schiff is saying is that he wants the use of federal military personnel to enforce domestic policies within the United States, but he wants to keep it a secret and probably lock up any journalist who dares to print news of the clampdown.

Schiff does NOT want the possibly Republican-dominated House or Senate looking into what the U.S. military was doing at the January 6 Trump rally and at the CRAPitol that day.

An amendment like this would be unconstitutional.
One Congress cannot pass a law binding a future Congress.
Each Congress is free to oversee whatever it wants to oversee.
