ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A plan by Florida health officials that likely would restrict Medicaid insurance coverage for gender dysphoria treatments for transgender people lacks sound medical justification and may be politically motivated, according to a group of academics from Yale University and other schools.
The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration said puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and sex reassignment surgery have not been proven safe or effective in treating gender dysphoria.
But a group of seven scientists and a law professor from Yale and other schools said in a report last week that the Florida’s agency’s conclusions are “incorrect and scientifically unfounded.” The Florida conclusions are so flawed “that it seems clear that the report is not a serious scientific analysis but, rather, a document crafted to serve a political agenda,” according to the academics.
A spokesman for the Florida health agency dismissed the academics’ report as “another example of the left-wing academia propaganda machine.”
Transgender medical treatment for children and teens is increasingly under attack in many states where it has been labeled a form of child abuse or subject to various bans. Critics point to the irreversible nature of many elements of gender transition treatment.
Many doctors and mental health specialists argue that medical treatment for transgender children is safe and beneficial and can improve their well-being, although rigorous long-term research on benefits and risks is lacking. Federal guidelines say gender-affirming care is crucial to the health and well-being of transgender and nonbinary children.

Yale is not in Florida.
Their blab may be good for Connecticut inhabitants, but those people are not like people in Florida.
Move billions of dollars from the universities into vocational education. That would have several beneficial outcomes.
Don't say “we are cutting funding for worthless professors”; just say we are adjusting priorities to make the education system have more “equity, diversity and inclusion.”
True, but many locations have actually made it illegal to help homosexuals overcome their perversive feelings. I doubt that's the law in Florida, however.

The people responsible for the suicides are the ones that sow doubt in the minds of vulnerable children about their sexuality. Urging confused people to accept reality and learn to deal with it is compassion.

My niece just visited us with her 15 yr old daughter and 2 of her 15 yr old friends.
The daughter self identifies as “gender fluid”. One day likely to dress like a boy..the next a girl.
One friend is “transgendering”. Not medically as her parents are against it. She has socially changed her name to a male name but dresses like a girl complete with pink nail polish and dangling earrings. I asked her what’s that about and her response was she’s a cross dresser. So she’s a girl who wants to be identified as a boy who cross dresses.
The 3rd 15 yr old identifies as a girl but hasn’t ruled out being a lesbian.
I just called them “the kids” and was disappointed they didn’t want to learn to play cards.
I pray for our country’s future.
