Doctor Who Spread Story About 10-Year-Old’s Abortion Disciplined For HIPAA Violation: REPORT

The doctor who spread a story about a 10-year-old girl who allegedly travelled from Ohio to Indiana for an abortion is being disciplined for a HIPAA violation for taking the story to the press, Fox News reported.

The story originated from Dr. Caitlin Bernard, an Indianapolis obstetrician-gynecologist who claimed the girl couldn’t legally obtain an abortion in her home state of Ohio. The story came under scrutiny given its single-source nature and Bernard’s history of pro-abortion activism, but an unnamed source has purportedly corroborated the story and revealed new details about the repercussions the doctor is now facing, according to Fox.

A 10-year-old Ohio girl did travel to Indiana for an abortion, a source familiar with the situation told Fox, but it remains unclear whether she was actually forced to cross state lines or was simply referred to the Indianapolis clinic after Republican Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said she would have been allowed to have an abortion in the state. Bernard’s employer is disciplining her for violating HIPAA, the federal law protecting patients’ sensitive medical information, for sharing the child’s story publicly.

CINCINNATI (WXIX) - A Columbus, Ohio man confessed to the rape of a 10-year-old Ohio girl who then became pregnant, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced on Wednesday.

Gershon Fuentes, 27, is being held at the Franklin County Jail on a rape charge, according to jail records. He is being held without bond. His next court appearance is July 22.

Yost said the suspect confessed to raping the 10-year-old girl who then had to go to Indiana to get an abortion following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Was personally identifiable information released? This story gets crazier by the minute.

So the rape part of the story is true, but the ”forced to cross state lines” part is false. She could have had an abortion in Ohio. Looks like the two doctors colluded in exploiting a squalid but not unprecedented rape story and turned it into a lurid anti-Dobbs abortion rights story. What filth.

A bit of an awkwardly written headline with "Doctor Who" mentioned in it.

Bernard’s employer is disciplining her for violating HIPAA, the federal law...

If it’s a federal law shouldn’t the feds be prosecuting her??

I thought she didn’t have to go to Indiana, she stayed in Ohio.

So, at this point, Biden attempted to smear pro-lifers with the lie about going out of state, and the heinous crime itself escaped authorities attention for how long ?

Willful neglect of HIPAA violations is a civil fine of $10k with possible criminal charges if the JD deems it necessary (which means no)

“she should have a min 1 year license suspension”

And a minimum of an additional $50K fine and can be raised to $1.5 million if the act is willful neglect and not timely corrected.

https://www.ada.org/resources/practice/legal-and-regulatory/hipaa/penalties-for-violating-hipaa#:~:text=A%20person%20who%20knowingly%20obtains,up%20to%20one%2Dyear%20imprisonment.

And this act of the doctor easily qualifies as the above.

There’s his name in the previous post. She can be “x” for now...but she’s absolutely identifiable.

Yeah but - see she won’t do it again so that’s “corrected” - $10k

And I’m sure “she” won’t be paying that.
