U.S. consumer prices in June accelerated at the fastest annual pace since November 1981.

WOW. I hope you are right. I find it very difficult to fathom how someone can posit a deflationary environment with the red hot printing press we have had running for 10 years, but everyone has a right to their opinion.
Good luck to you! Seriously.
The Next Great Depression.. Perhaps the greatest yet.
Markets Crash, A Run on the Banks, breakdown of social/civil order, Food shortages, fuel rationing, widespread riots and looting perpetrated by roving gangs of lawless blood thirsty heathens, etc.
Besides that everything should be copacetic.
Ya, been there done that. I like this quote from the God Father (see below). In other words, people become lazy and complacent and stupid and forget what is important. We are at this point right now (IMHO).
God Father quote...
“These Things Gotta Happen Every 5 Years Or So, 10 Years. Helps To Get Rid Of The Bad Blood.”
Don’t get me wrong. Some good changes have happened that were once considered a waste of time and stupid. But we need a way to sort through the stupidity and sadly, hardship, helps us do that. History repeats itself.
I hope that Republicans are more realistic about the world and that that will make the difference when times are tough.
*************
They won’t. There was an R congressman on Fox biz this morning who, when asked what they were going to do when they take control of the House, said “first do no harm”. What kind of prescriptive policy is that? When pressed for more specifics he couldn’t provide any.
The R’s have no plans or intentions to do anything other than play us for votes so they can have more seats. That’s all they want.
2. Yes, I was around in 2001-02. I'm not sure what you're describing there in particular. The Fed funds rate dropped from 6.5% at the end of 2000 to 1.0% at the end of 2003. What does this have to do with anyone losing a fortune in real estate back then?
Then we will fire them. Or maybe it won’t be important anymore. Republicans need a good kick in the ass too. Maybe more so than Democrats because “they know better.”
No, just a recession. How deep is yet to be determined.
We are facing a demographic disaster. There are more Americans over the age of 80 than under the age of 2. Look to Japan for a view of how the future is likely to unfold here.
Also, look at the U.S. GDP growth figures over the last 10-15 years. During the Trump administration we hit a peak around 2.9% in 2018. It was held up as an awesome performance at the time. A number like that would have been seen as a miserable failure in the 1980s.
A lot of people forget that Newt Gingrich's epic 1994 "Contract with America" campaign strategy wasn't issued publicly until late September that year.
"First, do no harm" is a perfectly reasonable campaign strategy in July.
You are poster child for why we need a new America First party to replace the GOP.
Uh — whut?
Patera is a good Christian woman.
“That’s when we thought to buy property in WV or KY as it’s less expensive but is at a historical high right now. Thoughts?”
What do you think much higher interest rates are going to do the price of real estate?
Right now is the worst time to buy RE. Wait until it crashes which it surely will. Keep lots of dry powder handy. Strange as it seems in an inflationary time cash may be your best asset, because in trying to fix inflation through higher interest rates all other asset classes will have to come down in price.
Another thing that we had back then... our Faith and belief in God. IMO, that will change and people will be looking for hope.
Inflation, and what comes next?
Depression if things don’t pick by next year nothing is looking like a up tick gas will be the main season for the slide.
Go green go bust
“The COLA is determined on a yearly basis. The average CPI-W for the third calendar quarter of the most recent year a COLA was determined is compared to the average CPI-W for the third calendar quarter of the current year.“

To be fair, it makes no sense for the GOP to go out on a limb and make any promises and prognostications this early in the campaign season. We have no idea what the circumstances facing U.S. voters will be 3-4 months from now.

You don’t have to worry about Republicans going out on a limb. A party that doesn’t stand for anything never commits to anything.
I do believe that we already know what issues are important to Americans. The Democrats through their failures and misguided leftist policies have clearly defined them for us. The only people who are not clear on what the country’s priorities should be is the clueless Republicans.
Saying “do no harm” is so obvious there’s no reason to really say it. Some things are just that self-evident. But to a Republican office holder I suppose it sounds profound.
“ His point was we have to do something about fossil fuels (he already made his money) because they will destroy the climate. A LOT of people believe this. Don’t see much hope.”
Neither do I. I work in utilities…the belief that “fossil fuels” are destroying the planet is nearly universal in this field. (Anyone who actually thinks differently is cowed into silence by the desire to retain employment). Certainly, everyone I encounter in my field born after 1980 is fully on board with it.
I think it all must come crashing down into massive, unimaginable destruction and death before the brainwashing can be overcome. I think like the poster of this thread that war - probably a greater one than the planet has ever seen - will be the final result.
