Man infected with monkeypox attended Daddyland Festival in Dallas

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The Dallas County health department has reported its first locally transmitted case of the monkeypox virus after a man who attended the Daddyland Festival tested positive.
He traveled from out-of-state for the four-day, Fourth of July circuit party. Health officials said the man went to a Dallas hospital with a rash and was diagnosed through laboratory testing done. Given the size of the Daddyland Festival, others who attended the events could have been exposed to monkeypox and, possibly, infected.

The new gay disease that dare not speak its name. But still is capable of infecting animals. Just because it is "gay men" who are getting and transmitting it now doesn't mean the rest of us don't have to worry about it. All it takes is one person to transmit it to animals, especially local rodents for it to become endemic in North America.

It’s related to Smallpox. I don’t want a relative of Smallpox infecting animals in North America and given the opportunity to continue to evolve here. There’s a chance that a much more virulent disease could emerge. It’s not the current disease that worries me. I was vaccinated against Smallpox as a child. Very few civilians in the US have been vaccinated against Smallpox. This means opportunistic relatives of Smallpox now have an opportunity to infect people and animals outside of parts of Africa.
