Critics warn that the Civics Secures Democracy Act (CSDA), which is backed by multiple Republican senators such as Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), could impose leftwing critical race theory on every public school in the United States if it passes.
The bill's goals include support of “local educational agencies, elementary schools, and secondary schools in selecting and making available to all students innovative, engaging curricula and programs” pertaining to civics and American government, as well as to “diversify the civics, history, and government education workforce by offering targeted incentives.”
While the bill does not expressly warrant the creation of a national curriculum, the grant money would be awarded by the Secretary of Education, which previously removed a requirement that grant seekers incorporate elements of the New York Times’ 1619 Project and the work of critical race theorist Ibram X. Kendi.
Additionally, Biden previously issued an executive order that mobilized the federal government in an attempt to advance critical race theory under the guise of “racial equity and support for underserved communities.” The CDSA has garnered support from multiple Republicans, including Cornyn, who introduced the bill alongside Democrat Sen. Chris Coons (DE). Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) also joined the two in introducing the controversial piece of legislation. Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) is also supporting the bill, as is Tom Cole, a Republican Congressman from Oklahoma’s 4th Congressional district.
The National Association of Scholars is one of the organizations opposing the legislation, and has issued a call to both Cole and Cornyn, urging them to withdraw their support for the bill, arguing that it would empower the Biden administration to advance critical race theory.

The bill would empower Biden’s Secretary of Education to award grants to “eligible entities,” including nonprofit organizations, higher education institutions, and states, which would then use the money to offer subgrants to local educational agencies.
The legislation would provide $1 billion dollars annually to eligible entities. $585 million would be earmarked for state education agencies, while nonprofits would receive $200 million, higher education institutions would receive $150 million, $50 million would be earmarked for researchers, and $15 million would be granted to the Prince Hall Fellowship program, which is intended to “diversify the civics and history education workforce.”
WHAT SCANDAL is CORNYN being BLACKMAILED for??? Or has he got DEMENTIA and has Forgotten WHO VOTED FOR HIM??
This is just another slush fund.
“... innovative, engaging curricula...”
Another name for BS. Civics as taught in schools fifty years ago was meant to familiarize all students with how the government worked, at the local, state and Federal level, with discussions about tings like founding documents, mission statements of the various levels of government, the ways of participating in that great edifice by becoming knowledgeable voters, and how to make your voice heard by the legislators and executives. Underscoring it all was the responsibility that goes along the rights of citizenship.
Somewhere along the line, the teaching of civics was abandoned altogether, and youth graduated from high school without the remotest idea of how their government was supposed to function. Now comes all this new theology about worship of the State, and the absolute condemnation of the Great American experiment, and the capitalist society and the religious base upon which it was founded.
Command-and-control regimes are the way to go. Yeah, right.
Those have worked worked so well throughout history. For a few people, everybody else is expendable trash.
“Civics was a class that used to be required before you could graduate from high school. You were taught what was in the U.S. Constitution. And after all the student rebellions in the Sixties, civics was banished from the student curriculum and was replaced by something called social studies. Here we live in a country that has a fabulous constitution and all these guarantees, a contract between the citizens and the government – nobody knows what’s in it...And so, if you don’t know what your rights are, how can you stand up for them? And furthermore, if you don’t know what’s in the document, how can you care if someone is shredding it?” - Frank Zappa
Isn’t he a conservative?
Teach actual history ( democrats can’t stand that(
Critical Theory is a world view that communists hold. It looks through a lens of oppressed vs oppressor .
Nah.
Unless you mean he promotes the idea of black owned businesses
I think he us mostly just a dumbass.
The Senate GOPe is trying to throw the election to the Demo-Nazis. The GOPe does not want to be in the majority.
I’ve never voted for Cornball in a primary but did mark his name on November 3,2020, because the Democrat “alternative” seemed worse.
He may not be “dumb” but nefarious.
When a state as conservative as Oklahoma has two elected officials sign on to this crap, it shows that they all turn to squish after being in DC awhile.
Term limits are the only answer. They all become corrupt.
That’s the fun part. This is the real him. He’s probably retiring after this term and no longer has to answer to his constituents - so he can do whatever he wants.
Stupid jackasses.
