The Man Most Responsible for Ending Roe Worries That It Could Hurt His Party
The New York Times ^ | June 24, 2022 | Maggie Haberman and Michael C. Bender

The end of the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling was the culmination of decades of work by Republicans and social conservatives — one that came to pass only after a former Democrat from New York who had once supported abortion rights helped muscle through three Supreme Court justices.

Publicly, former President Donald J. Trump heralded the Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday ending federal abortion protections as a victory. Yet, as he faces possible prosecution over his efforts to subvert the 2020 election and prepares for a likely 2024 presidential campaign, Mr. Trump has privately told friends and advisers the ruling will be “bad for Republicans.”

When a draft copy of the decision leaked in May, Mr. Trump began telling friends and advisers that it would anger suburban women, a group who helped tilt the 2020 race to President Biden, and would lead to a backlash against Republicans in the November midterm elections.

In other conversations, Mr. Trump has told people that measures like the Texas state law banning most abortions after six weeks and allowing citizens to file lawsuits against people who enable abortions are “so stupid,” according to a person with direct knowledge of the discussions. The Supreme Court let the measure stand in December 2021.

For the first hours after the decision was made public on Friday, Mr. Trump was muted in response, a striking contrast to the conservatives who worked in his administration, including former Vice President Mike Pence. Mr. Pence issued a statement saying, “Life won,” as he called for abortion opponents to keep fighting “in every state in the land.”

I don’t think Roe V Wade will make that much of a difference in the midterms. The nasty abortionist women will be energized, but pro-life Republicans will also be energized. Lost in the shuffle right now are Biden’s blatant attacks on women’s sports and Title IX. The small number of tranny bullies are running the table on this and it’s a losing issue for Democrats. But more than anything, inflation in general and the cost of energy are the top issues which will motivate voters.

I guess we're damned if we do and damned if we don't.

I'll just go back to binging my favorite Netflix series.

Trump was speaking and said this before the 2020 election. He did not say this yesterday or the day before simply because Biden and the democrats are American’s worst enemy at the voting booth.

what you lose in cocoanuts you make up with bananas.

Likewise what you lose in suburban women you make up with Hispanics.

[The real problem is that many of them are ashamed of us, and don’t want abortion restrictions.]

IMHO, it’s not shame - it’s deceit. They lied themselves into the GOP nomination and election victory. Once in office, they revealed their true beliefs, which are just a shade to the right of the Democrats they claim to oppose, and way to the left of their constituents. There’s a reason politicians aren’t exactly ranked highly for honesty.

Most people, who vote on abortion issues vote Against It.
I met many voters. Many vote Pro-life, almost nobody votes pro-death!
I never met anybody like that, but there could be some, somewhere.
Pro-life is vote getter!

Yep. Build the wall. Be clear we are against illegal immigration but we are welcoming immigrants as long as they go through the proper channels. Concentrate on the economy. Hispanics were burnt by COVID-19 shutdowns and Democrats are out of touch due to their elitism and their social justice crap.

They won’t give a thought to the ruling with all this going on, despite the media’s lies.

Never underestimate the stupidity of the American voter

Trumps picks corrected a grave error costing millions of innocent lives. God gave us a second chance. It’s in our hands again.

I've met many women and men who if you talk to them issue by issue they agree with the Republicans but due to abortion would never vote for them.

Well, People I met are exactly opposite. They seem to be agreeing on issues with Democrats, but they vote Republican, because they are pro-life!
First, it kind of shocked me, but then I got used to it.

I suspect that it'll make the difference in purple states such as Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina.

These writers say “friends of” like they really really talked to a person friend of Trumps. I don’t think so.
