After the Uvalde City Council voted against a leave of absence for embattled school district police chief Pete Arredondo on Tuesday evening, Mayor Don McLaughlin harshly criticized Department of Public Safety Director Steven McCraw for blaming local police in last month's shooting at Robb Elementary School.
It came hours after McCraw told a special committee in the Texas senate that there was "a sufficient number of armed officers wearing body armor to isolate, distract, and neutralize the subject" within three minutes of the shooting, but Arredondo "decided to place the lives of officers before the lives of children."
McLaughlin told Uvalde residents on Tuesday evening that since the shooting, McCraw has continued to "lie, leak, mislead, or misstate information in order to distance his own troopers and rangers from the response."
"There were no less than eight law enforcement agencies present in the hallway leading up to the breach of the door at Robb Elementary School," McLaughlin said at a city council meeting.
"Every briefing, he leaves out the number of his own officers and rangers that were on scene that day. He leaves out that during this time, every other classroom in the building was safely evacuated by Uvalde peace officers with the assistance of Border Patrol."

Uvalde residents ripped into Arredondo at Tuesday's city council meeting.
"Get him out of our faces. He does not deserve leave without pay," one woman yelled. "He failed us."
McLaughlin also confirmed Tuesday that Robb Elementary School will be demolished, saying "you could never ask a child to go back or a teacher to go back in that school, ever."
Texas DPS did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday evening about the mayor's comments.

The police chief didn’t think about assaulting through the windows, or even distracting the shooter through the windows, until at least an HOUR had passed. Watch the video I linked above.
I bet that happens soon. The police are beyond useless. They are part of the problem.
It’s a small town police force. They would have shot you and not cared, expecting they could bury it. Would have been a vainglorious but useless gesture... unfortunately.
Tearing the school down because of a shooting is idiotic. All public schools should be torn down to save kids from the teacher’s union.
Looking at this matter...I’d start to ask about a twenty-year history of the police department, and how many times they screwed up. Every robbery, every murder....I’d bring state folks to review the records and ask more questions.
OMG!!! Those cops are EVIL!!!
No one is to blame but that ineptturdonastickuseless Uvalde school cop !!!
If the school building is to be demolished then give that SOB cop a damned Rock Hammer and chain him to center of the building.
Now that I have had a moment to think, why are they getting in a hurry to demo the school ?!???
To destroy evidence...
They’ll protect your dead body 77 minutes later, sure!
Not much evidence would be left. DPS photographed most of it and even removed doors, etc., from the facility.
The school is also to be blamed to some degree. They were a totally soft target - they deliberately left doors unlocked, the classroom fire doors could not be locked from the inside, even if they had locked the outside doors they could be accessed by breaking just one plain glass panel.
It seems daily more bad news of the police lack of action comes out, what a disgrace of a police force.
"Every briefing, he leaves out the number of his own officers and rangers that were on scene that day. He leaves out that during this time, every other classroom in the building was safely evacuated by Uvalde peace officers with the assistance of Border Patrol."
All of which further reinforces the theory that this event was deliberate. Those kids were deliberately sacrificed. They were butchered for whatever nefarious reason the powers that be decided to execute them for.
Although it’s always been a lie, everywhere, it must be pretty galling to see cop cars in Uvalde sporting that “to serve and protect” slogan
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
I don’t have a problem with tearing it down in this case.
I’m not superstitious, but I would not want to be the one to use that classroom for anything ever again. Not with the memories tied to it.
I cannot fathom what kind of human being can listen to those gunshots and screams from the kids and NOT just say “Screw you!” to the orders to stand down and then move in to do something.
I hope that haunts every last one of them in their nightmares the rest of their pathetic, cowardly lives.
No doubt destroying the evidence is the reason for demolishing it.
Also to help erase it from memory.
Deliberate murder.
That poor guy. The only decent human being among the group.
I would think that is a greater than zero chance that he will show up at work some day and “go postal” since his co-workers are complicit in the death of his wife.
