Members of the Republican Party are busy betraying their base while simultaneously shooting themselves in the foot. They’re doing it by embracing so-called “red flag laws,” which is a euphemism for the creation of a separate legal system designed to target a single class of Americans (gun owners) and exact a severe penalty (gun confiscation).
That’s right, some Republicans have somehow concluded that targeting their political base (gun owners) by depriving those Americans of their fundamental constitutional right to keep and bear arms (the Supreme Court’s words, not mine) is constitutional, good public policy, and smart politics. These Republicans are wrong on all counts.
Ten Republican senators announced that they reached the “framework” of an agreement with Democrat leaders for a historic platform of new gun control laws to be rushed through Congress without the benefit of robust hearings or debate. For constitutional, public policy, and political reasons, Republicans should not put their fingerprints on any gun control laws this year or ever.
Let’s start with the constitutional argument. Gun confiscation laws masquerading as “red flag laws” form the centerpiece of the deal. Red flag laws allow the government to seize guns from people alleged to be dangerous. The evidentiary hurdle is shockingly low: a single uncorroborated accusation or complaint about the gun owner’s mental health history or current behavior will suffice to take away his guns. Often, the gun owner is not even notified of the accusations leveled against him or allowed to participate in the initial hearing deciding his fate. That’s right, the gun owner may not even be aware that his constitutional right to keep and bear arms is under attack. So, he can’t contest or refute the allegations made against him or challenge the accuser’s credibility. Think the January 6 Committee, except with the added authority...

With what I’ve been seeing locally, your 100% correct description applies to city councils, county commissions, school boards, zoning boards, state legislatures, local/county/state judges.
Basically, it seems like your neighbor, who can barely start a lawnmower gets elected to the city council and there he is “making decisions for you and the rest of the folks” because he knows more than you and what is good for you and the community.

I agree. My reference to the senate was meant to give a sense of how government as a whole views its role - to be boss over the chattel - and wasn't meant to be that there are only 95 skunks in the whole works.
Government is what, 10% or so, 7% of the adult population? They don't get into that line of work in order to allow people freedom!! That's antithetical to being in control.
I’ve made it crystal clear to my senators and reps that it is in their personal best interest to convince their RINO pals to vote against red flag laws. Because if the GOP is unable to protect my constitutional rights, ***then I don’t need them***.
Not only will I not vote R for any office in this scenario, I will vote D in retaliation. Because if the GOP and the public thinks this crap is ok, then they clearly have not suffered enough under D rule to comprehend the truth, a problem I will assist the hell out of them with.

They’re burning down food processing plants so we can starve to death. They’ve turned our children into confused, mentally ill messes. Now they’re coming for our guns.
The Deep State/Globalists/NWO are making their last move. It’s up to us to put a stop to it. There are no “common sense” ways of keeping guns out of the hands of the evil, criminals and the mentally challenged. They will always find a way to attack us. Remember hatchet man? I had a great great Uncle who had to go to Trenton, NJ on business. He turned down the wrong street and was attacked and beaten to death with a baseball bat. This was back in the 1940s.

CT passed a red flag law some time ago. Same process as getting a search warrant. Gotta go before a judge with evidence. Emergency temporary disarming because of an emergent episode is always a law officers on-site call in all 50 states.

The Democrats would have pushed forward a confiscatory semi-auto ban and ban on standard capacity magazines in addition to a FEDERAL red flag law.
The only thing standing in the way of that was the GOP and the filibuster.
Instead of what the Democrats wanted, they got some meaningless fluff that does nothing in the grand scheme of things.
There is no AWB.
There is no magazine ban.
There is no national red flag law.
Nothing in the bill forces Missouri to enact a red flag law, and Missouri probably won’t.
