A Philippine government attorney was fatally shot while riding in an Uber with his mother on their way to the airport in Philadelphia, police said.
Prosecutor John Albert Laylo, 35, and his mom, Leah Bustamante Laylo, were heading to Philadelphia International Airport to catch a flight home from a vacation in the US when gunfire broke out around 4 a.m. Saturday, police said.
Police said someone in a black car fired several rounds into the victims’ Uber at a red light near the University of Pennsylvania, striking Laylo in the back of the head.
The gunman then moved to the driver’s side and fired additional shots before fleeing.
The Philippine official was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:33 a.m. Sunday. His mother was hospitalized with shrapnel wounds from shattered glass, according to Philippine Consul General Elmer Cato and Bustamante Laylo.
“Never did I imagine or dream that … the end of our vacation will be like this!” the mother wrote in a post accompanied by photos of her and her son happily posing up at landmarks in New York, Washington, DC and Philadelphia. “We travelled together and we are supposed to go home together! I will bring him home soon in a box!”

The perpetrator is still on the loose, and the homicide detectives are currently investigating the case and will be looking at the surveillance video too. There has also been no disclosure of a suspected motive behind the attack, the authorities have also not revealed if the attorney and his mother or even the Uber driver were intentionally targeted.
Those cheap early morning plane tickets aren’t worth it.

Yep. Somebody in the Uber probably “disrespected” somebody in the shooter’s car. And the hell of it is that the victim almost certainly didn’t do it intentionally.
Sometimes even an innocent glance can get you into trouble.
At some level it appears to be intentional. Hit the car, hit people, tried to hit other people. Ot at least that's how it reads, the shooter was trying to hit the car at least. That's much would appear to be intentional.
Whether or not these particular individuals were chosen in advance, that is premeditated against these people, that hasn't been determined one way or the other.
I figure typical city of brotherly love random drive by, unless the Uber driver has some connection.

It was a planned assassination.
Mother and driver were not hit. Shooter was waiting outside his pace of residence. Then shot at him from one side, then moved to other side of vehicle to shoot again
That reads like a targeted assassination.
