A 66-year-old male blood donor turned away from the clinic after refusing to answer a question about whether he was pregnant as part of a pre-donation questionnaire.
Male donor denied admission after he refused to tell if she was pregnant
For nearly 50 years, Leslie Sinclair has transfused an impressive 125 pints of blood.
After complaining, he said the staff told him they couldn’t accept his blood donation.
For nearly 50 years, Leslie Sinclair has transfused an impressive 125 pints of blood.
But his last trip was turned down after he refused to answer a question about whether he was pregnant or not.
Sinclair, 66, was ordered to fill out a form asking if he was expecting a baby or if he had been pregnant within the past six months.
When he complained that, as a man in his 60s, the question was inappropriate and that he should not answer it, Mr. Sinclair said the clinic staff told him that they could not accept his blood.
Leslie Sinclair, 66, was ordered to fill out a form asking if he was expecting a baby or if he had been pregnant within the past six months.
It emerged last night that all potential donors are being asked if they are pregnant to “promote inclusiveness” and because pregnancy “is not always visually clear.”
The standoff came as NHS England launched a campaign earlier this week to recruit another million blood donors over the next five years after numbers dwindled during the pandemic. The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) launched a campaign earlier this month to find 16,000 new donors next year.
It emerged last night that all potential donors are being asked if they are pregnant to “promote inclusion” and because pregnancy “is not always visually clear.”
Angered by the refusal to take his blood, Mr. Sinclair left and last night spoke of his disappointment at the “meaningless” decision.
The father-of-two from Stirling in central Scotland said: “I am angry because I have been donating blood since I was 18 and I go with it regularly. I am very happy to do it without any problem.
“There is always a form to fill out and that’s fine – they tend to ask about health conditions or illnesses – and it’s clear that the blood has to be safe. This time there was a question I hadn’t seen before: “Are you pregnant or have you been in the last six months?” which required a yes or no answer.
“I indicated to the staff that I could not be in this position, but they told me that I must answer, otherwise I would not be able to donate blood.
“I told them that it was stupid and that if I had to leave I would not come back and that was it, I got on my bike and left.
“It makes no sense and makes me angry because there are vulnerable people who are waiting for blood, including children, and are in desperate need of help. But they were denied my blood because of the obligation to answer a question that cannot be answered.
Mr Sinclair said: “They were denied my blood because of an obligation to answer a question that cannot be answered.”
Mr Sinclair said his wife Margaret, 59, was also shocked, adding: “She just can’t figure it out either.” Pregnant women must wait six months after giving birth to donate blood. Mr. Sinclair, a former engineering company driver, went to the Albert Hall in Stirling on Wednesday to donate blood.
Last night Professor Mark Turner, Director of SNBTS, said: “We appreciate the support of everyone in our donor community and thank Mr. Sinclair for his commitment over the years. While the issue of pregnancy is only relevant for those whose biological or birth sex is female, the gender assigned at birth is not always visually clear to staff.
“As a public body, we are aware of changes in society in how such questions can be asked without discrimination and have a duty to promote inclusion – so all donors are now being asked the same questions.”
You can say that again.
Clinic staff blind and stupid ?
Stupid “fail safe” that dose nothing but waste our time.
Don’t submit to stupidity, multiply it.
That right there is tagline gold.
Just imagine the fun one could have by saying you were pregnant. But sometimes we are too tired and grumpy to deal with stupidity.
The only time in my life I suffered from gender and pronoun confusion was in high school German class. Why is the sun feminine and the moon masculine in German, while in French and Spanish they are the opposite?
😂
I wouldn’t want those people sticking a needle in my arm when they can’t figure out that men cannot have babies.
More people need to just say no to this insanity.
Neil Bortz said that he would answer “yes” to the pregnancy question if he went to a new doctor and never go back if they didn’t question him about it figuring they weren’t reading the info provided so they couldn’t treat whatever condition accurately.

As a side note, I have a relatively uncommon blood type and they won’t take my blood because the test shows that I’ve been exposed to hepatitis. However I participated in the study of a more accurate test which showed that that had not been the case. They told me that the test required by the federal government has a 50% false positive rate. And yet the feds won’t change it to the more accurate test. I don’t even try anymore. And I’ll have to tell you the people running the blood clinic in Lakeland Florida were not much smarter than the feds.
“The question can be answered and the answer is obvious. Just like its obvious the question should’ve never been asked.”
Both of your assertions are correct but this is a bureaucracy situation. The clerks’ orders are that every question must be answered, period.
The deeper subject is why was the question put on the form, but if I were given the form I’d just answer “no” and forget about it.
I used to donate so much blood I was in the multiple gallon club. I stopped about 25 years ago because the system so corrupt. I will not support it with my free blood.
I have little doubt that Putin (and Xi and other of our enemies) are encouraging and bankrolling this in western countries to weaken them from within.

Exactly the right move!
Why would anyone let people that don’t even understand the difference between a man and a woman perform even a basic medial procedure on him or her?
Yep. All it takes for evil to prevail is for a good man to do nothing. I fight this kind of stuff every chance I get. I thought masks repeatedly when I was boarding airplanes and even learned to carry a large bag of peanuts so I could eat while flying and therefore not be required to wear a mask. It really ticked off a lot of Karen’s but they couldn’t do it during thing about it.

“I hope the U.S. isn’t the source of infecting the world with wokeness, but I can’t imagine who else started this.”
It was started by English speaking academics, many of whom are in the US, but many aren’t. I remember the beginnings of this BS from when I was in college back in the 70’s. I resisted it back then, and there is documentation to that effect on the internet today! If I were to run for a serious office, it would almost certainly be dug up and used against me. Wokeness has been a long time coming, and for most of that time it was dismissed as lunatics barking at the moon. One lesson we should pass down is to keep an eye on those lunatics.
I’m sure they allowed fags and poofters with HIV to donate to the blood bank. I would rather get blood from stone.
