Why the fertilizer market could be Russia’s hidden leverage

Economists and policymakers say Russia may have some thus far hidden leverage on Ukraine — and the global food supply.

They worry that self-imposed export restrictions on fertilizer by Russia, the top global provider of the product, could further drive up the cost of food and damage global harvests in 2023 and beyond.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has been a factor in the 30 percent surge in international food prices and 10 percent rise in U.S. food prices over the last year, as supply chains continue to sputter in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

But the price pressures exerted on agricultural markets by Ukrainian exports like wheat and sunflower oil have been so far mostly caused by issues with their transportation, with cargo ships stuck in blockaded ports that Russian authorities say need to be cleared of mines.

A shift in Russian fertilizer policy could go a step further, leading to problems with food production in addition to distribution.

Yeah, ‘hidden’ except from us conservatives who’ve been screaming about this since January.

A child makes decisions on impulse, with little understanding or care of the consequences. This is the ‘best case’ explanation for the actions of our government.

For the globalists’ plans, this is a feature, not a bug.

No. The West’s militarizing and NZIFICATION and NATOizing of Ukraine forced Russia to invade. We really need to wake the F up on what we’ve allowed this Deep State and Oligarchs like Soros to do around the world in our name and using our financial and military might to do it with.

Together, Russia and Belarus control 40% of the world’s potash supply. In 2021, the U.S. imported about 93 percent of the potash needs. Canada provides 83% of the potash used in the U.S.; Russia and Belarus provided 12% used in the U.S. in 2021

The ethnic Russians in the autonomous areas of eastern Ukraine felt threatened as Covid fears were waning and the seven or so-year battle over their areas heated up.

They declared independence and asked the Russian government to come to their aid.

Soyboys will benefit. Their mothers will finally have to wean themselves off soy phytoestrogen

The root cause was the whether Ukraine was going to align with the West or with Russia.

The EU was in no hurry to take low-wage Ukraine in but Russia was.

The pro-Russia guy from eastern Ukraine won his election allegedly, but it was not accepted in mainly pro-EU Kyiv. The pro-Russian guy reacted to protests too violently and was forced to flee.

The pro-Russia people in eastern Ukraine were very upset and wanted to go their own way towards Russia. After much fighting they legally won autonomy, but it was not fully accepted by Ukraine, resulting in considerable continuing bloodshed. Once Covid fears waned, this fighting really picked up. The pro-Russia people decided if they could not have their autonomy accepted by Ukraine, that they would go fully independent of Ukraine and ask for Russian military help, which Russia felt they had to provide for their fellow Russians in Ukraine.

Food shortages seem to be part of the plan, and not just for some bogus climate change. Western countries will still be able to feed their people, while third world countries will experience outright famine. Then the West tells those countries they best get onboard with the Russia sanctions, or no food relief packages will be coming from the West, and everything will be blamed on Russia.

The technology to make these fertilizers is old. How did countries get so lazy to depend on importing it?

The pro-Russian guy reacted to protests too violently and was forced to flee.

The 2013-2014 Maidan protests were initiated by a group called "Right Sector" - a coalition of fringe nationalist and neo-nazi groups, Bandera-supporters, etc... from western Ukraine, which suddenly appeared at the start of the Maidan protests. Their thugs/fighters occupied key government buildings by FORCE and fought running street battles with police.

Then just a couple weeks into this insurrection, in December 2013, along comes John McCain, Chris Dodd and Victoria Nuland, to appear on stage, in public, in the Maidan Square with Right Sector's leaders - Dmytro Yarosh and Andriy Tarasenko. Yarosh actually ran for President in 2014 - and got 0.7% of the vote. Not a popular candidate. But he had done his job for the CIA and deep-state.

After the Nuland/Pyatt and the USA installed Arseniy Yatsenyuk, this "Right Sector" was disbanded, with some of the groups going to form the infamous Azov Brigages.
