Steny Hoyer: Arming Teachers, ‘Turning the Schools into Armed Fortresses’ Won’t Make Them Safer
Breitbart ^ | 06/09/2022 | Trent Baker

Posted on 06/09/2022 9:22:07 AM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

On Wednesday, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) pushed back against the notion that arming teachers would help prevent future mass school shootings.

“CNN Newsroom” host Jim Sciutto asked Hoyer about the value of the House passing symbolic gun legislation, knowing there would not be enough support in the Senate to get it passed into law.

Don’t forget, armed guards who are allowed to shoot non-threatening women at will with no justification for the use of deadly force, with absolutely no consequences

“Turning the Schools into Armed Fortresses’ Won’t Make Them Safer”

And that is why no one ever built defended fortifications in human history.

ay 5 teachers choose to carry in a given school, if one of them will act instead of relying on a singlular “professional” its worth it.

What if none act? After all, none of the police did and they were supposed to be trained to the hilt. You're expecting a lot from a group of people with minimal training, to react in a manner where professionals don't. In 2019 a gunman shot up a Walmart and killed 22. There were likely a hundred or more people in the store and, it being Texas, the odds are some were armed. Nobody ran towards the gunman then, but you expect teachers to do that first time, every time in the future?

Then maybe well should pull all the capitol police from Capital Hill, since by the same logic “Turning Capitol Hill into an Armed Fortress won’t make them safer” either.

What if someone posted a peer reviewed, published paper proving you are wrong? Would you read it? https://freerepublic.com/focus/news/4069868/posts

From the Abstract of the Paper: " There has yet to be a single case of someone being wounded or killed from a shooting, let alone a mass public shooting, between 6 AM and midnight at a school that lets teachers carry guns."

Direct link to paper: Schools that Allow Teachers to Carry Guns are Extremely Safe: Data on the Rate of Shootings and Accidents in Schools that allow Teachers to Carry 37 Pages Posted: 29 May 2019

Heck gated communities are safer than those without a gate. The list goes on and one. Democrats turning themselves into pretzels to stop real solutions to the problem. Absolutely disgusting and sickening.

Armed fortresses are pretty safe places. That’s why they are built

So I guess just don’t try it. At all. Seems the schools that do allow it don’t have problems like this. I am for having armed guards at schools. Start working on mental health problems. Many of these shooters have mental health problems and many times have been on FBI list. Listen to the children when they report troubled children within that school. Push for the children in school to say something if they see or notice something. Make sure they stay anonymous..

Would you read it?

Yes.

So the author says that no school that allows armed teachers has ever had a shooting. Tens of thousands of schools that don't allow armed teachers haver never had a shooting either. The fact is that school shootings, while tragic, are also rare. So the author is stating the obvious, most schools don't have shootings regardless of whether the teachers are packing or not. What would be interesting, and which the author of the paper did not provide, was evidence that a shooter was deterred by knowledge that the school staff could be armed or evidence that an armed school staff stopped an active shooter in the act. We don't have that.

Yet, I've posted the excerpt from the shooter in Buffalo that says the target was chosen because of gun laws. Here, let me post it again.

So I guess just don’t try it. At all.

Dumping it all in the lap of amateurs and hoping for the best does not seem to be a logical solution to me.

Start working on mental health problems. Many of these shooters have mental health problems and many times have been on FBI list. Listen to the children when they report troubled children within that school. Push for the children in school to say something if they see or notice something. Make sure they stay anonymous..

Who gets to decide whether or not to take the persons constitutional right away? Do we have the FBI order people to be screened and committed? Where is the system to support this and who pays for it? There are too many questions that need to be answered before we can call this a solution.

So what’s your solution now. Just keep going the way we are going. And who is taking away someone’s constitutional right away. Some of these shooters have been on the list. The FBI didn’t take rights away but perhaps could have kept a better eye on them. But I will say you can’t watch everyone that pops up.

I'm not sure there is a solution.

And who is taking away someone’s constitutional right away.

There's this odd little part of the Constitution called the Second Amendment...

Some of these shooters have been on the list. The FBI didn’t take rights away but perhaps could have kept a better eye on them. But I will say you can’t watch everyone that pops up.

Being on 'a list' allows you to be stripped of your right to keep and bear arms.? Where is that legal?

Not talking about taking rights but watching these people on the list, especially if they recently purchase a gun. Is that illegal. For people that have previously made threats.

It works if it's right. Which it is.

Think about prison. You don't get more locked down than that. And yet, drugs and contraband run through prison. Maybe we need armed guards and metal detectors in prisons, and random searches. That'll stop it.

This is a risk that you simply cannot erase. As long as there are public schools, wackos will target them and succeed in killing children.

Now, of COURSE controls can be implemented to limit the risk. But 78 minutes demonstrated the potential for the mitigants to fail.

That brings us to the real world, where armed teachers will be, on average, Bidet voters and typical losers watching CNN because they hate Fox and Trump supporters. The arbiters of "which teacher will carry" are the bosses of this lot, who are likely MSNBC fans and think parents are domestic terrorists.

Frankly, shootings aren't where parents should be concerned, statistically speaking. See this Ted Talk about Stopping Sexual Abuse by School Employees stating that 5.7 million students have faced sexual abuse from school employees across all 50 states in America and this article on how predatory teachers stay on the job.
