Steny Hoyer: Arming Teachers, ‘Turning the Schools into Armed Fortresses’ Won’t Make Them Safer
Breitbart ^ | 06/09/2022 | Trent Baker

Posted on 06/09/2022 9:22:07 AM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

On Wednesday, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) pushed back against the notion that arming teachers would help prevent future mass school shootings.

“CNN Newsroom” host Jim Sciutto asked Hoyer about the value of the House passing symbolic gun legislation, knowing there would not be enough support in the Senate to get it passed into law.

Hardening schools and having multiple police officers on site at all time may well make the schools safer, but will states and municipalities foot the bill? And it does nothing to prevent mass shootings at stores, offices, churches, night clubs, and the like.

Has there ever been a school mass shooting with armed personnel in the faculty?

Stoneman Douglas in Florida. The officer on site ran in the other direction.

Was he "in" the facility? I thought he was out at the loading dock.

So save the taxpayers some money and get rid of the ones surrounding DC buildings.

An armed teacher (OF COURSE WITH TRAINING) in EVERY classroom, would be my goal.

So you solution is to leave the responsibility with haphazardly trained amateurs rather than trained professionals?

Was he "in" the facility? I thought he was out at the loading dock.

He was on campus in another building. When the shooting broke out he refused to enter the building where it was happening and instead cautioned other officers to avoid entering the building as well.

Good resume builder if he wants to apply in Uvalde.

Then he really wasnt an armed asset.

He was supposed to be. It wasn't until he was needed did they find out he was a useless coward. Just like with the Uvalde Police. You will never know until it actually happens but if the professionals turn out not to be useful the why should we believe the amateurs would be a better solution?

Have you noticed that the democrats are trying to remove anything that might interfere with an armed attacker? Steny Hoyer is a complete ass!

Have you looked at the Guardian program in Florida? This program has been in place by Florida law since 2018 and it's precursor "Sentinel" program was in place in my county much longer. Armed, trained teachers and civilians are a deterrent to mass shooters. Even the Buffalo supermarket shooter wrote in his manifesto that he choose that location because there was less risk to him from armed civilians... Not police.

Perhaps they need someone better to vet the applicants in these situations. Say 5 teachers choose to carry in a given school, if one of them will act instead of relying on a singlular “professional” its worth it.
