ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — Gunmen opened fire on worshippers and detonated explosives at a Catholic church in southwestern Nigeria on Sunday, leaving dozens feared dead, state lawmakers said.
The attackers targeted the St. Francis Catholic Church in Ondo state just as the worshippers gathered on Pentecost Sunday, legislator Ogunmolasuyi Oluwole said. Among the dead were many children, he said.

Explosives were used and many children are among the dead. My prayers and thoughts go out to them and their families.
How is this possible? Nigeria has very strict gun control laws. You have to have a license from the government to own any gun and even with a license possession of any semi-automatic assault weapons or handguns is prohibited.

How tragic. Prayers up for the victims and families.
Sad evidence to the liberal meme, that mass killings don’t happen in other countries.
More proof that Islam is a demonic, terrorist, savage religion, which should be treated as such by any sane people and government.
Down the rabbit hole it goes...
Folks, could we please stop making any atrocity about guns? I get your point, but this is a serious anti-Christian attack and has nothing to do with the US and its gun laws.
Christians - both Catholic and Protestant - are being slaughtered by the Islamists every day in Nigeria, and the press…and I would say FR ….is just ignoring or minimizing it.
African Christians need a supply of Winchesters and buckshot. And a few C-130 loads of machetes.
I understand your concern and I share your anger and sadness that Christians are being persecuted and killed in this fashion.
That said, there is some justification to mention these events in relation to American mass shootings. Many liberals will state (incorrectly) that America is the only place where mass shootings occur. An event like the one that this article is about, as sad and angering as it is, is an important counter to the liberal lie.
Only a mention is needed, and it should be done with respect and in a way that honors the dead.
Christians - both Catholic and Protestant - are being slaughtered by the Islamists every day in Nigeria, and the press…and I would say FR ….is just ignoring or minimizing it.
I second this. Believe it or not, not everything in the world revolves around US second amendment issues.
Bingo! AP buried the lede, although they did offhandedly mention Nigeria’s “rising violent conflict between farmers and herders.” They failed to mention that the farmers were targeted for being Christian by the muslim Fulani ‘herders,’ of which belongs Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari. This is not Rogers and Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma!” singing ‘The Farmer and the Cowman’ should be friends, although P. Francis would probably claim that.
bttt
If I live to be 1,000, I’ll never understand why someone thinks this is a good idea. Same goes for the recent school shootings.
This is why the democrats both import muslims and also try to disarm the rest of us.
Very sad. Prayers up for these good Christian people, and all the survivors.
Thank you for the respectful response. You’re one of my favorite posters!
Exactly. It’s not about us.
This is about Islam’s war on Christians, and African Christians - who are very devout - are very vulnerable.
Yeah, and those Christians needs guns to defend themselves when they are under constant attack. And then you need something in your government that recognizes your God given right to defend yourself.... like a second amendment.
It’s a legit discussion and far more useful than just sitting around emoting about it.
It also involves the best kind of learning. Learning from the mistakes of others. Seeing this story and discussing the 2nd Amendment is legitimate, smart, and good and moral. And Jesus approves.
Good thing they were Christians or the Libs would be bothered.
FR is the only place where I’ve even seen these attacks mentioned.
Can’t be....only happens in Amerika per the Left.
