Russian companies have been plunged into a technological crisis by western sanctions that have created severe bottlenecks in the supply of semiconductors, electrical equipment and the hardware needed to power the nation’s data centres.
Most of the world’s largest chip manufacturers, including Intel, Samsung, TSMC and Qualcomm, have halted business to Russia entirely after the US, UK and Europe imposed export controls on products using chips made or designed in the US or Europe.
This has created a shortfall in the type of larger, low-end chips that go into the production of cars, household appliances and military equipment. Supplies of more advanced semiconductors, used in cutting-edge consumer electronics and IT hardware, have also been severely curtailed.

‘Everything is gone’: US businesses hit hard by Biden’s economy.
There, fixed it
Now would be an excellent time to be a bootlegger. I could make a fortune bootlegging chips to the Rooskies.
Current world affairs are showing the weaknesses and vulnerabilities of Just-In-Time (JIT) supply chains.
When a major area collapses, the whole JIT is in jeopardy.
When things are running smoothly, it is great. When there is a glitch, it could bring down the whole system.
They are getting them from China and also producing them domestically.
When all this works it way though the system, Russian will be left with food and fuel, and Americans will have smartphones and netflix.
We keep telling the Russians to get Putin before he gets you (or your business), but the message isn’t getting through.
I’m making some chips today in an air fryer ,LOL
Russian oil and gas sales could hit $285 billion this year, outstripping last year’s takings by 20%. Europe is a major buyer of Russian energy products, accounting for about 50% of its crude oil exports and 75% of its natural gas exports in 2021. Germany was the biggest buyer of Russian energy in the first two months of the war.
This will only spur the production of locally made chips by Russia. Just watch and wait.
Russia will be fine. Ukraine is the one that’s F’D.

I’m sensing a business opportunity, despite your self-gratification.
It’s no joke, everything is gone. We have been waiting for three months for...500 pieces of DuPont Tyvek for a medical tray lidding.
Package sealing fixtures are several weeks late...
Testing protocols cannot be completed...
Delivery by European manufacturers of testing equipment delayed until late summer...
Product launch has been delayed until next year...
This isn’t about chips. This is about every cloud provider shutting down routes to Russian address spaces. Everything we rely upon in modern technology requires a server on the backend. When all of those endpoints suddenly stop responding, you’re plunging the system into the dark ages.
Chips are a very small part of what constitutes a server, farm, datacenter, etc.
When all this works it way though the system, Russian will be left with food and fuel, and Americans will have smartphones and netflix.

The Russians are in need of nothing- important. Grain, food, commodities, oil, NG, diesel, metals and more. The West needs what they have.
I was wondering the same thing. This includes the WSJ. Why attach a link that requires a subscription?
It costs the Orcs™(trigger word) about $10-20 a barrel to produce. Spot price is over $100 bbl, Orcs™(trigger word) discount price is around $70 bbl. Sanctions are working: they are making money hand over fist, while Americans pay exorbitant prices for fuel.
