How can America bounce back from low birthrates? Ban pornography, said Ohio Senate candidate J.D. Vance.
What’s happening: According to HuffPost, Vance — a Republican Senate candidate and author of the best-selling memoir “Hillbilly Elegy” — said in a “newly unearthed” interview with a Catholic magazine in August 2021 that he wants to ban pornography.
“I think the combination of porn, abortion have basically created a lonely, isolated generation that isn’t getting married, they’re not having families, and they’re actually not even totally sure how to interact with each other,” Vance told Crisis Magazine at a conference for young conservatives.
Vance’s campaign “didn’t provide a comment about his more recent thoughts on porn, and how they would factor into his priorities as a senator,” HuffPost writes.

He’s onto something. At the very least there should be strict verification. No child should be subjected to it, even by accident.
That was my very first thought.
It’s pretty clear that the HuffPost is shocked…SHOCKED, I tell you…that anyone would even suggest banning any kind of freedom of expression guaranteed under the First Amendment.
Now, banning guns?
That would be a “common sense” proposal./s
So you are basically a leftwing Democrat that wants to shape society through government and taxation as the whip.
OK, but how does that raise the birth rate which was Vance's stated goal?
Most of these kids who are getting screwed up are getting hooked on porn at a very early age. They become sexually attracted to a computer screen rather than the opposite sex.
It wouldn’t completely solve the problem but it would significantly help if they were unable to access porn until they were adults.
I am a Republican who for a long time now has been alarmed by our low birthrate. A stable country needs a birthrate of at least 2.1. Right now our birth rate is 1.7 and falling. A birth rate that low will negatively impact our economy and national security. In order to compensate for that low birth rate, we are encouraging illegal immigration which is dangerous and societally unstable.
I think Mr. Vance's solution is unworkable, but I give him credit for looking for a solution to the birth rate problem.
Wont be able to ban it, but getting it out of public libraries and schools would help. Used to be “porn” was only available in back alley shops.
It's available on any phone or computer with an internet connection.
One place I was stationed in my career was this Air Force Base located in a smallish city in central Georgia. There were several strip clubs near the town but only one within the city limits. The town was constrained from forcing the club closed because the club allegedly assiduously complied with all the city's ordinances and so they had no legitimate way to close it that would stand up in court.
The way they finally got rid of it was when the local newspaper posted a photographer outside the entrance every evening. He took candid photos of each and every patron exiting the club. A selection of those photos were prominently featured in the newspaper. Eventually men were scared to go as they were afraid of their portrait showing up...they were afraid not only of their spouses seeing the photo, they were also afraid of their church congregations seeing it as well as women they worked with.
After only a month or so, the club decided to move to a new, improved location in the county. Seemed like nobody cared about what went on in the county, just as long as it wasn't going on within the city limits. Go figure.
If they decide to ban porn in the US, the porn distributors (websites) will just move from within the city limits to "the county" (using the above analogy). Won't accomplish anything but it will make somebody feel good because they "did something".
Ha, I misread headline as Bad Porn... not Ban Porn.
Not sure this is what he wants to make as a central part of his campaign.
✔
Correct. What is pornea?
Ban swear words. Swear words are pornea.
No child should be subjected to filthy language. Lorena.
The Gab guy Torba just said the same thing. “We are coming for your porn.’
So they will send the police into the basement where an old man is looking at dirty movies? A lot of Freepers would be cool with that. If they don’t like it, villainize it and ban it, just like the libs do.
It’s dying and will go away. The stinky old bookstores are gone. Don’t energize it or create mystery. The kids think it’s boring and play video games and virtual reality. In fact, women players in the Metaverse are complaining about simulated rape.
My grandsons tell me the latest trends. The women on Onlyfans do shows and vids, but they spend a lot of time complaining that they can’t get any subscribers. And the last thing today’s teenaged boys want to look at is grainy pictures and blurry movies. The libs already took big bites out of Pornhub and Tumblr for some woke violations.
Gays aren’t that into porn. They like hookups and Grindr.
We don’t need to join our enemies playing Church Lady. This battle was won a long time ago.
The real answer is a return to virtuous living. Banning pornography will just drive pornography underground.
3 streaming porn sites are now in the top 20 of all the web. This is a relatively new thing too. If you think it’s not popular, I dunno what to say.

I’ll not be able to stand Ryan in the Senate. He’s lying about being a moderate. He’s supported everything Pelosi put in front of him. He even voted for her for Speaker after he promised not to.
God help us.
I was in Columbus last week - some hard core Republicans are very worried Vance is going to be portrayed as a nut - out of touch with the voters of Ohio.
One guy I know wrote Vance a letter asking him to think about what he is saying on the campaign trail
Doesn’t matter what he says, the MSM will twist his words.
Stick with, “It’s the Economy, Stupid!” And it’s the Democrats fault. Ryan’s been in DC for 20 years. What have you done for me lately?
It ain’t that hard.
Best response I've read today. Totally sure that the continual diminishment of faith/religion in society directly correlates to the senseless and atrocious evils growing in frequency. Had these mass shooters had any positive church experiences they would have had consciences preventing such horrors.
