A high school in a Chicago is implementing a race-based grading system “to adjust classroom grading scales to account for skin color or ethnicity of its students.”
The move is necessary, advocates say, because “traditional grading practices perpetuate inequities,” a slide used in a presentation said. Students, depending on their race, will not be held accountable for missing class, misbehaving in school, or for failing to turn in assignments.

Actually, this was common practice in testing back in the 70s and 80s and was known as “race-norming.” Most companies that used testing to screen applicants, for example, had separate norm tables depending on the candidate’s race.for example, a white with a absolute score of 37 on some cognitive test might translate into the 10th percentile on the majority norms but would translate to the 50th percentile on the minority norm table. The practice was explicitly banned by congress in the 90s.

Students, depending on their race, will not be held accountable for missing class, misbehaving in school, or for failing to turn in assignments. Because cutting class is cultural...

This story is hard to believe, even in this alternate universe we're all living in now.
If it's accurate, then shame on all the parents who will continue to send their children to this school.
But, I question the accuracy because of statements like this one:
The article notes that according to the Illinois State Board of Education, 38 percent of sophomores fail the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
No one "fails" or "passes" the SAT. Your score is either high, low, or average.
Plus, sophomores are taking their first attempt. Most students take the SAT again in their junior year.

Do they have non-black students? If they do, now, they soon won’t, though I suppose they just want the whites to stop trying to succeed.

You are right. If they are foolish enough to give race-based grades, they will be paying a fortune on lawyers. This is not going to turn out well for them.

My son was a procrastinator. Teacher called. Told her...not MY problem....his problem. Fail him if you have to.
As it turned out...he's a computer genius..and his oldest son is, too. And he's never late for anything.

traditional grading practices perpetuate inequities... Brilliant, because potential employers won't figure this out.

It’s only a matter of time before medical schools start doing this. They already are. I've seen a medical student who needed help with fractions and decimals. The tutoring didn't help. I've seen many cases of 'looking the other way' when errors happen.
