In Stunning Shift, WaPo Admits Catastrophic-Conditions, Collapsing-Morale Of Ukraine Front-Line Forces

With Russia’s war in Ukraine now in its fourth month, mainstream media consumers have been treated to seemingly endless headlines and analysis of Russia’s extensive military losses. At the same time Ukrainian forces have tended to be lionized and their battlefield prowess romanticized, with essentially zero public information so far being given which details up-to-date Ukrainian force casualties, set-backs, and equipment losses.

But for the first time The Washington Post is out with a surprisingly dire and negative assessment of how US-backed and equipped Ukrainian forces are actually fairing. Gone is the rosy idealizing lens through which each and every encounter with the Russians is typically portrayed. WaPo correspondent and author of the new report Sudarsan Raghavan underscores of the true situation that “Ukrainian leaders project an image of military invulnerability against Russia. But commanders offer a more realistic portrait of the war, where outgunned volunteers describe being abandoned by their military brass and facing certain death at the front.”

As many careful and less idealistic observers suspected the whole time, a steady stream of both wartime propaganda and one-sided social media feeds where it seems the only tanks being blown up are Russian ones has served to present a very skewed portrayal of the battlefield to the Western public. While it’s perhaps easier to get sucked into this pro-Ukraine bias based on the innumerable so-called open source intelligence self-anointed ‘experts’ on Twitter, this is less so if one wades into Telegram, where a flood of uncensored videos from both sides gives a truer picture, as the fresh report seems to also suggest…

Funny how shortly after the $40 billion check clears, the narrative shift begins.

Russia is a huge country with resources. US could not win in Afghanistan; real us army, what makes you think Ukraine will win against Russia.

Russia is a huge country but a very poor one, with wishes and desires much bigger than their resources. It's military is the only thing going for them, but then, that military is being depleted of resources and assets and personnel, and eventually, they'll be no better off than the Ukrainian military.

The U.S. was 'winning' in Afghanistan, but the people at home became weary of spending men and resources. Russia also pulled out of Afghanistan after they realized that they couldn't win either.

Going to the peace table would guarantee a win for Russia and the Ukrainians are not close to giving up, even as they are suffering; which by the way, Russia is suffering big losses too and want to end the war now while they still have some sort of victory.

Uncle Sam can continue to support the Ukrainian effort for much longer than Putin can continue with his big losses. It's up to the Ukrainians if they want to call an end to the war, but as of lately, it doesn't look like they're ready to give Putin his victory. BTW, the losses are huge for both sides of the war, so, why aren't you mentioning how Russia too is suffering huge losses, or is it that you can't bring yourself to criticizing the Russians or Putin?

Another 40 billion dollars down the drain. We could have used that money for something useful...like building transgender bathrooms for kindergartners

Re: 35 - Stop being a pig. You can make your point without the sexual references.

I would if Putinists glee for dead Ukrainians wasn't so blatant and orgiastic in nature.

Luckily, the experience will leave them spent and depressed when the news (already coming in) turns and shows the Putinist armed forces they worship still suck.

Stop blaming “the other guy” for your trashy comments using sex to mock those you don’t agree with.

All kidding aside.
Some of us have managed to actually have a honest discussion about this.

The facts are that this war was in the making since Obama infested the White House.

Russia, Russia, Russia. That's all we heard. Does anyone think hat maybe that countries leaders had enough listening to that crap?

The Ukraine has always been an area of contention..throughout history. The historical perspective of the Ukraine has been explained by many here, but it doesnt make sense to those who have no sense.
Fact is..the Slavic people are stubborn, uncontrollable, rebellious, and barbarous. Always have been, and maybe always will be.
Only since the fall of the USSR has that area started to move towards a more free and settled society. With this war, that all has been set back decades.

The Ukraine isnt our problem. And while the focus is on the Ukraine exclusively..look at what is happening in Pakistan, the Pacific Rim, the Indian Ocean (Sri Lanka) and Africa.

BTW, always the opportunist, the Russians have moved to send aid to Sri Lanka. WTH have we done? Whats that make us look like to the world?

So lets skin another 40 billion out of us slaves here in the USA to send war materials to the Ukraine for a fight that is a losing battle. Cant send a couple million to the Indian Ocean though for humanitarian aid.

BTW. You want to piss them off? Call it THE UKRAINE. Not just Ukraine.

Freepers don’t seem to understand how the 2nd most powerful military in the world could subdue a minor player. 🤔

“In Stunning Shift, WaPo Admits Catastrophic-Conditions”

Amazing how the Western Media has to LIE to us to, even moving towards the truth.

How about a ‘Stunning Shift’ of Western War Propaganda, now that the $40B is secured?

Our ENTIRE MEDIA knew that Russia was rolling up land, day-in and day-out, since this started. They’re not as dumb as they claim.

Russia won a long time ago, we’ve been watching mop up operations which the MSM has been propagandizing as overwhelming UK victories.

We had better real time coverage during WW2 than the current war. Think about that one

Accurate real-time coverage is available, but not from the state media in the West.

The reflexive Russia-haters censor and scream epithets. Even after a peace is negotiated, they will continue to support the next current thing and when tribunals take place, they will deny everything.

We had them during & after WWII, as well. Good Americans of German descent still groused about “Poor Mr. Hitler” and sent their kids to Turners, which were the youth wing of The Bund.

My husband’s German side went to their graves refusing to believe Germany lost or was at fault. Quietly, of course, because profits needed to be made, but they never relented.

At start of so-called phase 3 Russia controlled 30% of the Donbas now it controls 65% in another 3 months it will control 100% and Ukraine army is almost broken; don’t believe the news. Handing a weapon to a person does not make them a solider i.e. think of it as a team game Russia as a bigger team once main team of Ukraine is gone that is it; combat power goes down exponentially no matter what weapons you give them it takes time to learn, service etc. (They don’t make the parts supplied externally).

Stop giving these fools false hope, even MSM and Biden etc. are starting to get it. Anyone with a brain knew this from the start...this not some woke shit or game its special military operation...if it becomes war...Russia will just carpet bomb areas it won’t even come to that.

Let me tell you a secret, Putin holds all the cards...nothing is going to change the trajectory.

Let me tell you a secret, Putin holds all the cards...nothing is going to change the trajectory.

Putin is still running a very poor country, with a military which is running out of troops to send to the Ukraine war. Russia has suffered between 30,000 and 40,000 thousand dead soldiers, and military hardware losses worth perhaps 100 billion. That's not the kind of losses which a very poor country can sustain for a long time, and they're still suffering a lot more losses.

Whatever territorial gains Russia makes, they won't be able to keep for long, because, the Ukrainians are not going to give up the fight for their land, and they know the land better than the Russians.

The war won't ever be over for the Ukrainians, and the Russians will continue to suffer losses long after they declare victory over some 'conquered' land areas.

But, you can keep hoping that your buddies in Russia will somehow get the victory they wish. It ain't gonna happen, however.

Your are a deadender; countries should not be led by deadenders; see what happens to Ukraine next couple of months. Zelensky thinks the world is going to pay for things or rescue him...it’s SAD but reality is beginning to sink in, Putin should have put the hammer down from the start, instead of instilling this false bravado in them. Even though Ukraine bought this on themselves with western backing and a fool of a leader...even his men fighting are beginning to see it, the normal grunts. SAD.

You are a short time thinker. Think for the long-term.

The long-term says that Russia cannot hold onto whatever territory they take in the short-term. Russia does NOT have the resources nor the personnel nor the long-term will to keep up with the war. No poor country, like Russia, has ever been successful in their conquests. History is NOT on YOUR side.
