Security footage from Robb Elementary School in Texas shows that a back door was propped open by a teacher before Tuesday's deadly mass shooting, Texas law enforcement officials said.
At 11:27 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the door that police believe was used by the 18-year-old gunman to enter the school was propped open by a teacher, Director of Texas Department of Public Safety Steven McCraw said at a Friday press conference.
McCraw said the detail was confirmed through "video evidence."
After the gunman crashed his vehicle in a ditch just a minute later, the teacher ran to get a phone and walked back to the propped-open door.
Two men at a nearby funeral home heard the crash and went to the scene, only to find the gunman exit the vehicle. The men ran as they were shot at, but were not hit.
Through security footage inside the school, McGraw said the teacher panicked and called police at 11:30 a.m. to report the crash and gunman.
Eventually, at 11:33 a.m. the gunman entered the school through the door, barricaded himself inside a classroom and massacred 19 children and two adults.
McCraw said police who arrived at the scene were told by a commander not to engage with the shooter because they believed there was no more threat to children.

Okay - so why was the door unlocked? Who unlocked it?
Still a breach of security protocol.
So who had disabled the lock?
Some custodian?
Or some operative?
Strange how “mass shootings” coincide with fresh dirt appearing on the Clintons.
Lead to the head, repeat until dead.
Okay - so why was the door unlocked? Who unlocked it?
Good question. Maybe the door was always left unlocked...?
Scratch that... If the door was always left unlocked, she wouldn’t have thought to prop it open.
Knowing something about the style of lock would be helpful. I assume it is just a normal lock. If you don’t lock it then it won’t be locked. Of course there is good chance the door was rigged.
Fire door lock. Surely the schools you went to had doors with automatic closure arms (located at top on hinge side) and a “quick-opening bar” running across the whole door around waist height that when depressed unlatches the door (inside only...cannot be opened from outside). If the closure arm doesn’t exert enough pressure, the door might not re-latch. A slight manual pull will force the door to re-latch.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
I find it hard to believe that any adult didn’t already have their phone with them in the school during the day.
This claim that she had to go out to her car to retrieve her phone doesn’t ring true.
If you heard gunshots outside the school building, then what the heck would you run OUT of the building for into a known active shooter situation?
It might be a door with a bar handle, the kind you push to exit. If it’s locked, it shouldn’t open from the outside. If it’s unlocked, the person who closes it from the inside might not know it’s unlocked. Since she propped open the door at first, she must’ve thought it was locked.
Or... maybe the door was set to lock, and she thought she closed it all the way, but it didn’t close. Who knows.
Or... maybe it’s a completely different kind of door. We’ll find out soon, I guess.
I feel like a dentist, it's like pulling teeth getting answers. O.K., so the door didn't lock... WHY didn't the door lock? Unlocked is basically the same as open.
My guess is door closed, but not all the way and didn’t lock. What a coincidence..
our society is rotten, from the inside out. Our institutions are full of self-absorbed, pagan cowards and check takers.
Well, yeah. Except they aren't.
Teachers are nearly all leftist "make a difference" types; union hacks that hate parents. They are Government employees, just like the incompetent police force. Super great at everything except doing their actual jobs and producing results. FAIL
The video shows the murderer entering an open door.
Believe your eyes.
There were no alarms on any doors when I went to school. The main doors had a kind of bar, but not all of the side doors. Those however were not for student use.
Heh...given that I went to school in the 50's and 60's, and in a school that was so rural that it had 300 students in 12 grades, I'm not sure the technology even existed...
But every door was a self-locking bar door, and it was easy to lock yourself out.
I don’t see, in your linked DB article, where it says the teachers were notified by email, that they were on lock down.
Have they (DB) removed that? What time did they receive said email?
Thx.
It always seems to happen this way with news stories. First, we’re given little pieces of information. Then we find out the information was wrong.
Sorry for the confusion... If I recall correctly, another article mentioned one of the murdered classroom teachers received a notification on her cell phone that the killer was in the building.
I will search for that article tonight - it’s possible I misunderstood it - and I’ll respond later.
