According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), a mass murder occurs when at least four people are murdered, not including the shooter, over a relatively short period of time during a single incident. Over the last 30 years, the US has seen a significant increase in mass shootings, which are becoming more frequent and more deadly.

School shootings have also seen an exponential growth during the last three decades and in 2018 alone, there were 103 incidents of gunfire on school grounds, resulting in 53 murders, seven suicides, and 88 injuries.

Seemingly every time a mass shooting occurs, whether it’s at a synagogue in Pittsburgh or a nightclub in Orlando, the anti-gun media and politicians have a knee-jerk response – they blame the tragedy solely on the tool used, namely firearms, and focus all of their proposed ‘solutions’ on more laws, ignoring that the murderer already broke numerous laws when they committed their atrocity.

Facts matter when addressing such an emotionally charged topic, and more gun control legislation has shown that law-abiding Americans who own guns are not the problem. Consider the following: The more gun

I always find it strange that antidepressants like SSRIs can increase thoughts of suicide. Seems counterproductive to stopping depression.

Medicine is funny like that. Claritin makes my symptoms worse AND knocks me out. I tried it twice before deciding it was a cruel joke.

"Seems counterproductive to stopping depression."

Well, in a way, it does stop the depression - and a whole lot more.

My theory is the drugs do not help the person learn to cope with life. Whether it is bullying, outcast, or whatever.

The drugs are about feelings

The problem remains unaddressed.

Many say the drugs help for awhile, but the effect fades. ’

Or it’s just a correlation and we have an increase of all these things due to living in an increasingly greedy idiocracy...

There is a bridge near me with suicides now every few weeks. There were previously NO suicides for several decades.

Instead of asking why all these people are killing themselves more and more, the idiocracy now demands we pay millions for fences...

The problem is that they don’t treat people with psych disorders for the real problem as inpatients, they just treat them as outpatients and prescriptions. As a nurse for over 30 years the large suburban hospital that I worked at doesn’t even have a psyc ward anymore, it went away in the 80’s to let the crazies roam the street and end up not taking their medication or stopping psyc visits with a real Dr.

And if the individual has oppositional defiant disorder (ODD).then all bets are off.

Time to get serious and fund institutionalization of the worst cases. There is little hope for people like this.

Medicine is funny like that.

Yes, like an anti-diarrheal medicine that "may cause diarrhea".

Are the drugs causing the problem or is the need for drugs a symptom that something is already wrong and drugs don't solve the problem?

You can't support a broken leg with band aids.

While ssri and other psychotropic drugs are a factor, the problem goes back one more level. The family.

Broken family, single parent, no dad that is engaged; these are the factors that produce most of the reasons that the drugs are used in the first place.

Kids need engaged fathers, not drugs or gun control laws.

All of this is laid at the feet of the materialist/relativist/pagan-atheist worldview forced on our kids by “progressives”. They have insisted that the the government replace the intact nuclear family.

Nothing will change for the better until people repent and recommit to God’s design for the family.

Just look at the fruit of the past 120 years of secular progressive society; misery added to misery and decline in every metric of mental health.

Democrats own all of it.

Perhaps this is true, but I note the popularity of video games where shooting and killing people is a competitive game. It desensitizes some to violence and encourages anti-social behavior.

Listening to TV ads for some of these anti-depressant drugs, I am always struck by the fact that possible side effects include depression and suicidal thoughts. So the drugs can cause the very things they are supposed to treat? How does THAT work?

True dat! The War on Drugs is a farce.

The most dangerous and deadly drugs are trafficked (along with human beings) by governments.

Governments, in turn, are controlled by drug (both legal and illegal) company lobbyists.

Ain't nobody growing fentanyl in the backyard.
