Turn Up the Heat
Read: Revelation 3:14–22

Be earnest and repent. Revelation 3:19

Temperatures where we live in Colorado can change quickly—sometimes within a few minutes. So my husband, Dan, was curious about the temperature differences in and around our home. As a fan of gadgets, he was excited to unpack his latest “toy”—a thermometer showing temperature readings from four “zones” around our house. Joking that it was a “silly” gadget, I was surprised to find myself frequently checking the temperatures too. The differences inside and out fascinated me.

Jesus used temperature to describe the “lukewarm” church in Laodicea, one of the richest of the seven cities cited in the book of Revelation. A bustling banking, clothing, and medical hub, the city was hampered by a poor water supply, so it needed an aqueduct to carry water from a hot spring. By the time the water arrived in Laodicea, however, it was neither hot nor cold.

The church was tepid too. Jesus said, “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth” (Revelation 3:15–16). As Christ explained, “Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent” (v. 19).

Our Savior’s plea remains urgent for us too. Are you spiritually neither hot nor cold? Accept His correction and ask Him to help you live an earnest, fired-up faith.Patricia Raybon

What’s the temperature of your faith? If your commitment to God is lukewarm, how will you pray to seek more loving heat and zeal?

If my commitment to You cools down, Father, send the loving heat of Your Holy Spirit to awaken and warm up my faith.

Well, it's now 33 years since my time on beautiful, sunny Parris Island, South Carolina.

About a third of the platoon were Reservists, and as far as I know, no one from that platoon became casualties.

Good evening, Mayor, and thank you for today’s sustenance for body and soul.

I finally made it through hump day...hope you successfully made it, too.

How is your back doing now that winter is over? Hope you have sunshine.

Howdy, luvie.

Hope your day was good ... and not too hot.

It was almost chilly here. And as I started typing this, rain started pounding on the roof.

Hey there, radu!

It was a great day and I'm sitting on the patio with laptop and diet coke in front of me. It's 72 calm clear degrees and I can hear dogs barking and cars going down our busy main streets blocks away and smell someone's grilling. If every night were this nice....and fingers crossed I don't get mosquito bit.

I'm happy that you're getting more rain and hope that there isn't any violent stuff coming with it. That corn must be growing by leaps and bounds.

I guess I'm going to have to separate Peaches and Ginger. They are aggravating each other out here. LOL!

Hey there, Kathy.

Yes, we’re still getting on-and-off rain and will through tomorrow. Just had a heavy shower roll through and it looks like we have a long-play event moving in. We’ll take all we can get. The corn is VERY happy. Hubby isn’t because the grass is also happy and he has quite a bit of mowing ahead. LOL

It looks so pretty up your way now with everything green again. And the mountains in the background make a pretty contrast with their snow-covered peaks.
I figured there must be a stiff breeze since the lake surface is really rippling.

Great that you have a nice evening to sit outside for a while. I hope the skeeters haven’t run you inside by now.
And that Ginger and Peaches are behaving.

So far, so good regarding storms. We’ve had a few flashes and rumbles the past couple of days but nothing rough. The possibility exists through tomorrow, though, so we’ll see how it goes.

The corn is growing like weeds right now. Once this rain is outta here and we have sunshine this weekend, it’ll take off even more.
