In yet another tragic mass shooting, Salvador Ramos, 18, slaughtered 19 innocent children and two much-loved teachers at Robb Elementary school, in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday before being killed in a shoot out with a Border Patrol officer and local law enforcement.
It is the second deadliest shooting in US history after the infamous Sandy Hook massacre in 2012 - which saw 26 people killed - and has once again left people asking how someone could commit such a heinous crime.
As the country tries to make sense of the tragedy, stories about Ramos are beginning to emerge from those who knew him best, painting the picture of loner with a propensity for self-harm and violence, who was from an unstable home, including an alleged drug-using mother.
Texas State Senator Roland Gutierrez said in a local television interview that the school shooter was born in North Dakota, but attended high school in Uvalde.
Neighbors and classmates say his behavior spiraled into the bizarre and macabre as he entered his later teenage years, with one friend telling Good Morning America: 'He had scars on his face and someone asked him, 'Are you ok?' and he just said with a smile 'I did it myself, I liked how it looked.'
He began dressing in dark clothes and military boots and used his BB gun to target random people, one local claimed.
There are around 15,000 residents in Uvalde which sits roughly 80 miles west of San Antonio, around an hour's drive from the US-Mexico border.
The would-be mass murderer lived with his grandmother on Hood Street, less than three miles from the Robb Elementary school.
More than one-third of residents in the city live at or barely above the federal poverty line.

awful just awful, and the bad tone clearly came from the orange man at the top, so this is his fault, and Putin’s and the guns.

Just because one isn’t “mainstream “ — maybe is a little geeky, maybe is a bit quiet or a bit shy or a bit small-stature, or maybe just puts their studies #1, or maybe is just unusually featured or finds the loose morals of many kids to be not what they want to be a part of... LOTS of things can cause a kid to get pushed around without them being “creepy”.
Back when I was in HS we were on the tail end of a period of some real blacks and whites problems too, although MOST of the blacks and whites got along fine.
I got pushed around a bit too, by a couple turds, but I think people who knew me at all (like my best friend from HS who I just ran into a couple days ago, or anyone from our last reunion!) would say “creepy” is the last word that would apply to me.
My solution, BTW, was to befriend (often by helping a little with schoolwork) the center on the basketball team, the nose guard on the football team, the captain of the wrestling team, the biggest guy on the wrestling team... (Two black, two white.) I had no further problems.
The information may be incorrect, but the author says he traveled from San Antonio to Uvalde, which is 85 miles.
Exceptions proving the rule perhaps?
Growing up in small towns, I really don’t recall any of what passes for ‘creepy’ these days.
A few were kinda hippie-ish, and there are always some that keep to themselves, but none truly weird/creepy.
Cliques, yes, but nothing truly bullying like what seems to be happening nowadays (or so we’re told).
We actually had a rifle club in my HS sans anyone getting shot,and lots of rifle racks in pickups.
More like 'white hispanic laraza supremacy', doubtful he related himself to any actual while folks. The left just cannot wrap themselves around a person of color becoming a mass murderer of color killing mainly children of color. They cannot crawl out of the crayola box long enough to concentrate on just one color, RED, the shooters victims blood.
The basic conundrum of this scenario is how few observers connect the fruitlessness of the pathogenic mood changers that make their users/abusers terminally dependent on them, worse than opioids I would think, from the reports I’ve read on the substances.
You would think that there would be a lot of media interest in talking to anyone that had anything to do with this kid.
I suspect that because he does not fit the profile of a rabid white supremacist, the UK Daily Mail is the only outlet that will actually print anything about the warning signs that were there beforehand.
It was his grandfather’s truck.
Where did he get the money to purchase his weapon(s) and ammo.? From a Wendy’s job????
