Only thing I can think of to add is a comparison to China. They say there is a rare but periodic horrific crime of Chinese men attacking school children with knives (as guns are so rare). They stab as many as they can.

Seems what they all have in common besides mental illness is extreme unhappiness and hatred of society. Makes me wonder and guess he has that trait; A hatred of our society and striking out at it at our most vulnerable and cherished. The ones most likely to hurt the society he hates so much.

My wife was a diagnostician in the Texas Juvenile System. There is a high percentage of trans/gay inmates. They are sick individuals and are capable of horrendous crimes. That's how they got there.

Uvalde County went for President Trump over Biden 57%-42% and Senator Cornyn by similar numbers.

It's pretty solidly Republican, the newer Hispanic Republicans that Texas is producing.

Someone who is very unhealthy might also fail to be very emotional after killing an attacker in self-defense.

By that, I was referring to someone who is very physically unhealthy (old, etc.), not mentally. Long term, physical illness can generally wear a person down.

You missed my point. The Colorado shooting was prior to the years I am speaking of. My point is that they were troubled youth. Now days, we actually have people in these schools pushing this trans stuff and troubled youth are a target. I spoke of this because this 18 year old appears to be a trans, or one in the making.
