Under-counts may have cost Florida and Texas another House seat.
Well, well. Remember how Democrats accused the Trump Administration of trying to rig the 2020 Census? Now a Census Bureau study reveals that Republican-leaning states may have been hurt by mistaken under-counts.
On Thursday the bureau published the results of its post-enumeration analysis, which it does after every Census to identify errors in the count. Its study found that 14 states were over- or under-counted by statistically significant margins. Compare that to 2010 when the bureau’s post-hoc analysis found that all the state population counts were more or less accurate.
States with large over-counts include Hawaii (6.8%), Delaware (5.5%), Rhode Island (5.1%), Minnesota (3.8%), New York (3.4%), Utah (2.6%), Massachusetts (2.2%) and Ohio (1.5%). Those under-counted by big margins include Arkansas (5%), Tennessee (4.8%), Mississippi (4.1%), Florida (3.5%), Illinois (2%) and Texas (1.9%).
Texas was under-counted by about 570,000 people while New York was over-counted by 695,000. That’s a lot of people. Yet the findings aren’t shocking. We noted last spring when the results from the reapportionment were announced that the Census counts diverged sharply from the bureau’s 2020 population estimates in many of these states.
The inaccuracies may have cost Florida and Texas an additional House seat and given Rhode Island and Minnesota one they shouldn’t have received. New York might have also lost another House seat if the Census were more accurate. So how did the bureau get the counts so wrong? The bureau blames the pandemic.

Dots To Connect:
1. I distinctly recall a strange Obama order directing Rahm Emanuel to take over the Census.
2. The echoing refrain of Hillary Clinton, "We need to get our people in there!"
3. Experience among last decade's (Obama era) Senior Government Directors (deep state); they are "installed" by connected sources.
I am shocked...shocked to find fraud going on with leftist government organisms.
The Dems won in court the right to have illegal aliens to be counted by the Census for purposes of apportionment.
The Dems rigged the Census.
It’s easy to rig the census. Just hire more counters for the dem states, and fewer for the pub states.
Given that the Census Bureau conducts the census and not the states then the Census Bureau is indicting itself.
Can I ask a stupid question?
If they have identified these errors, why can’t they go back and fix the census, so that the census is accurate?
If these are true errors, and not just a series of new estimates, why can’t it be fixed?
Part of my background is working with financial statements, and if errors are discovered, we are able to go back and correct prior period financial statements. Why can’t we do the same with the census, assuming that these are specific counting errors discovered?
I don’t get how they can say two years later, we goofed, and how we have to live with this for the next 10 years until the next census.
“mistaken”
make no mistake, it was no mistake.
Why do these types of ‘inaccuracies’ always favor democrats?
It’s almost as if there was a concerted effort to fraud the system and swing power towards a particular party.
Nah... that couldn’t happen...
Three-fifths Compromise redux.
I remember in the Clinton years that they tried to get ACORN installed as a data supplier and analysis arm of the Census Bureau. It didn’t work because the choice of ACORN was so blatantly crooked, but the Democrat desire to ‘cook the books’ is still there to this day.
Not making an excuse for any funny business but many MAGA voters don’t like to give CENSUS takers info. Could that be some of this?
I just heard a headline that the Illinois census was wrong. Didn’t stay for the story, but hmmmmmm🧐
I remember when Obozo moved the census op in under Dead Fish Rahm. That was so the detailed info could be stolen and used for his 2012 election, i.e. micro targeting, etc.
> “If they have identified these errors, why can’t they go back and fix the census, so that the census is accurate?”
If “they” ..... THEY is the operative undefined pronoun.
They, in this case, are Directors of the Census Bureau, which report to the Biden Regime. That should answer most of your question.
“Mistaken” ... that’s how Leftists steal now?
It would be very interesting to learn how many enumerators there were in all the states, wouldn’t it?
It’s easy to tell what kind of mischief the left is up. It’s ALWAYS whatever they are accusing Republicans of doing.
If they have identified these errors, why can’t they go back and fix the census, so that the census is accurate?
Because reasons.
The biggest being the Constitution and underlying enabling statutes give a deadline for a Census count, which then triggers reapportionment and other functions based on that count.
Once reapportionment occurs, then you must wait for the next decadal window and another Census to update reapportionment.
However, the Census is also used for many other things, and is updated annually for those purposes. So most likely the corrections are being made to the ongoing Census data, but cannot be applied retroactively to apportionment.
