The conservative majority on the Supreme Court is potentially poised to take down one of the nation’s oldest and most restrictive gun-control laws this summer. New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen will be the court’s first major Second Amendment case in more than a decade and happens to be coming amid rising national gun violence and an uptick in gun sales in recent years. What the justices decide could unravel laws across the nation restricting who can carry guns in public.
Here’s what’s happening.
The case: Can New York place severe restrictions on who can carry a gun in public?
For 108 years, New York has said that anyone who wants to carry a gun in public must apply for a license, and he or she must be at least 21, have no criminal record, have “good moral character” and — this is the part really being challenged — a demonstrated need to carry the gun beyond average public safety fears. This is known as “proper cause.”
Two men from Upstate New York challenged the state’s law when they applied to carry a gun at all times but received allowances only for hunting or going to and from work. They sued, arguing the strict law violated their Second Amendment rights to “keep and bear arms.”.....
Gun violence there has doubled in recent years, from their historic lows in the years before the pandemic.

Made sure they didn't write that those years were during the Trump presidency.
I haven't looked at the stats, but my perception is that the increase in gun violence is in big Democrat-run cities.

They can’t “EXPAND IT”.. what they can do is remove UNCONSTITUTIONAL RESTRICTIONS THAT WERE NEVER ALLOWED...
The right to keep and bear arms is intrinsic... the court can’t “expand it” only recognize it.

We actually have a left leaning Supreme Court on all but the more frivolous legal matters. On the less important things, the three Establishmentarians sometimes feel free to rule on the conservative side, but rarely do they do so on anything really important..
Exactly right. The gun-grabbers would insist that you prove a threat before you're "allowed" to carry for self-defense. It's like saying you will be "allowed" to have a fire extinguisher only when your neighbor's house is on fire, and therefore threatens to burn your house down as well.

Although the Supreme Court may restore state actor abridgment of 2nd Amendment protections for example, career federal lawmakers don't seem to be doing their 14th Amendment duty to make laws to discourage state actors from abridging such protections over and over again.

No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws [emphasis added]."
"Section 5: The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article."

Whatever the SCOTUS decides, who really thinks NY will change their restrictive gun laws and/or obey the SCOTUS?
After all, if two communist presidents have chosen to ignore SCOTUS rulings against their agendas, why shouldn’t the state do the same?
We have a FOID card requirement. That needs to go.
Or the Irish.
