Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) was projected to lose his primary in North Carolina on Tuesday night, marking the end of a brief yet controversial tenure in the House that earned him critics on both sides of the aisle.
The Associated Press called the race for Cawthorn’s rival, state Sen. Chuck Edwards, at 11:09 p.m. ET.
Cawthorn’s campaign confirmed earlier Tuesday that the lawmaker had already conceded to Edwards.
Heading into the Tuesday primary, Cawthorn faced a crowded field of Republican rivals, though he remained the favorite to clinch the nomination in North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District.

Unfortunately the kid seems to have some serious personal issues.
He is still young and plenty of time to get his life back on track.
Be that as it may, the establishment doesn’t like rebels. They love free-spending Statists like Dan Crenshaw. And they even hate him.
Sorry, not sorry. His shenanigans were (and would have) reflected badly on Republicans far beyond North Carolina.
That last video of him was particularly disturbing.
Thank God for that... Cawthorn was a disaster.
Perhaps not, but this kid needed to be ousted. He had "disaster" written all over him.
I don’t know why, but I felt that he did these outrageous and inappropriate acts to over compensate for his handicap. Trying too hard to be “cool”, which is common with young people, I suppose.
Huge discernment issues. In a pre-technology era he might’ve been able to get away with it. Now everything a person says or does is available to scrutinize forever with a few taps on a keyboard.
Concur - if Marjorie Taylor Greene had lost, I would be angry. This young guy had some good points but he never knew when to stop and the “I am a congressman” thing with the traffic cops can only go so far. There are certain standards in public life (Yes, I know that the Senile Imposter and his wife “the Doctor” don’t follow them but I don’t expect anything from him).

He’s more a David Brock, but even without that he was a fake who vouched for Biden and said the election wasn’t stolen.
Glad he is gone..if he wasn’t in a wheelchair I would use a certain saying..but I will just go with..his train ran off the track.
The margin of victory of Edwards over Cawthorne appears to be less than 1400 votes. In the 11th District Democrat primary the winner’s margin was nearly 20,000 votes. North Carolina allows unaffiliated voters (independents) to choose a Democrat or Republican ballot when voting in a primary election. It is conceivable unaffiliated voters, voting the Republican ballot, provided the margin of victory for Edwards.
Cawthorne’s erratic behavior was becoming embarrassing to many conservative voters and was not helpful to the conservative brand or the Republican brand. To win an ideological war, the soldiers in the fight need to be disciplined, rational, and professional if they are to influence people to be persuasive. Cawthorne’s behavior had become a liability and the people chose to dump him at the ballot box.
What ticked me off in the NC primary ballot was the incumbent was not identified.
How will Edwards fare in the general election? Where does he stand on the issues??? I’m just an outsider looking in.
Or got on the wrong one and didn’t have enough experience to to see the bridge ahead was out.
Any chance Cawthorn runs independent/third party?
I think that needs to be done in places to end the RINO’s rule in the party. It’s time to clean house.
Perhaps the Republican Party in NC believes they ARE cleaning house.
In most places identifying the incumbent would not be positive for the incumbent.
[I think that needs to be done in places to end the RINO’s rule in the party. It’s time to clean house.]
So you’d rather risk a full blown Democrat winning the seat, than a Republican-Light?
This kind of thinking is why we are in the mess we are in...
