Indian couple sue their son for £530,000 for failing to produce a grandchild after splashing all their savings on his lavish wedding and US pilot training

A retired Indian couple are taking their only son to court for more than £500,000 as they claim his failure to produce a grandchild has caused them 'mental agony'.

Sajneev Prasad, 61, and wife Sadhana, 57, filed a petition against son Shrey Sagar and his wife Shubhangi, who married in 2016 and do not have any children.

The marriage was arranged and they were even sent to Thailand for their honeymoon to produce an heir, Sajneev said.

Shrey and Shubhangi must have a child within a year or pay up, the parents claim.

Pilot Shrey was trained in the US at his parents' considerable expense. He returned to India in 2007 as the recession caused an industry slowdown.

Shrey has since worked as a pilot in India - and lives separately from Shubhangi, who also works.

The mother and father gifted the couple an Audi worth £63,000 and paid for their luxurious wedding reception at a five-star hotel.

They claim they've spent 25million rupees (£265,000) on their son since he was born.

They now want the exact same amount back - and another 25million in damages.

'We killed our dreams to raise him', Sajneev told The National World.

“The marriage was arranged...”

Well, that would seem to alleviate quite a bit of the liability that the grandparents want to place on the couple, as far as I’m concerned.

This case will have interesting effects if the wannabe grandparents win.

Possibly gay, a successful young man would have no problem finding a wife on his own. Even now, if he presented his parents with a pregnant girlfriend, they’d arrange a divorce and a shotgun wedding immediately.

That’s not usually an obstacle to having children.

But sometimes people just can’t. There’s no indication of that in this article; but would Indian parents ‘fine’ their son if it turned out he and/or his wife were infertile?

Sorry, no compassion from me. Anyone who elects to have children hopefully is smart enough to realize that raising kids is not free and that parents should expect to push a lot of their desires onto the back burner. I hope they lose and the couple counter-sues.

I attended HS in Vancouver canada. A LOT of my classmates were Punjabi meaning they normally dont wear the head rag.

SOME of them were already “scheduled” for marriage during my time. Some of them were not happy, some were (depends on how pretty they were).

I wonder if they had any other children. Guessing they didn’t.

I’ve known several young Indian couples who had arranged marriages. They came from upper class, loving families and told me that if either objected to the ‘arrangement’, they could refuse and wouldn’t be forced to marry. (They aren’t exactly married-off sight unseen anymore; they have a chance to get to know one another somewhat.)

But they had faith in their parents’ judgment (”I know my mother will find someone good for me”). They didn’t seem to have any worries leading up to marriage; and seemed very happy after.

I’m sure it’s not the same for everyone.

Marriage in India is a lot more of a social duty than it has become here; and it has little to do with romantic love. It’s much more a matter of duty to family and community.

Even now, most homosexual men, of any status at all, marry women there; they know they have to.

“would Indian parents ‘fine’ their son if it turned out he and/or his wife were infertile?”

He is a pilot? Were they forced to take the Jab?

Fertility is an undocumented side affect of the mRNA vaccine.
