Michael Steele: It ‘doesn’t matter’ if Trump-endorsed candidates lose. ‘Even a loss is a win.’

With Republican primaries in West Virginia and Nebraska underway, Michael Steele, Chuck Todd, Kimberly Atkins Stohr, Mark Murray, and Vaughn Hillyard join Andrea Mitchell to discuss this latest test of Trump’s influence over the Republican Party through his endorsements.

“It doesn't matter whether they win or lose. He doesn't like the stain of a loss, but even a loss is a win for him,” says Steele. “He's got these candidates groveling to him. You know, Mooney crosses state lines just to be on the stage with Donald Trump in Pennsylvania,” Steele explains. “The establishment still has no clue what to do, so they capitulate and buckle. So where does Trump lose in any of this?”

Gawd what a line-up. And none of them have a clue as to what is really going on with the electorate in this country.

Something tells me Newt was a better bomb thrower than speaker even though he was effective for 4 years. Too easy a target then so was Nixon.
....
the left’s lock on the media then was much stronger than it is now. as well, the democrats were not bat sh-t crazy like they are now. they were also very polished liars then. not so now.

Yes, we really underestimate the power of $$$ to corrupt men. I don’t see how anyone enters DC and remains unchanged. Maybe a Trump, someone who was already super rich and didn’t need or want their loot?

Coincidentally, that’s exactly how I feel about GOPe candidates these days. Even if they lose, the consolation prize is that we don’t have to be represented by an assistant Democrat who secretly hates us.

And to think, not too long ago, they actually had him in charge of the RNC. The results were a total disaster.

Trump is now 57 or 58 and 2.

Not many losses there to explain at all.

Funny. They put “pending” all the guys who have already won primaries. Clever.

BTW, has ANY president in history EVER had a “fact check” of his endorsements? As I recall, Zero was particularly horrible in getting anyone elected.

Is Michael Steele still calling himself a republican?

Probably and he’s about as Republican as the RNC, Ana Navarro and RINO’s are!!! All the more reason to change the name Republican to the PATRIOT MAGA Party!! (I know you can’t do that so kick out all those who don’t adhere to the principles of the party and run interference for the Demonrats)

“A loss is a win? OK”

What he means is, and this is the benefit of always primarying these people, that elected officials will be constantly looking over their shoulders when they vote. And they should be.

So even though Herbster lost in Nebraska, the winning Republican will have a hard time if he tries to move left, because the people will be watching, or to our benefit, will shore up his conservative credentials with conservative views and legislation.

Similar to in Georgia and Ohio. Governor’s DeWine and Kemp both got conservative legislation passed and signed because they were being primaried. Otherwise, they might have worked to kill it in the legislature or vetoed (as some Republican governors who thought they were safe did).

And people like Steele don’t like elected officials’ feet being kept to the fire.
