Dr. Oz accused of violating foreign agent law with work for Turkish Airlines
NY Post ^ | May 4, 2022

An advocacy group is urging the Justice Department to investigate Pennsylvania Senate candidate Mehmet Oz for doing work for Turkish Airlines without registering as a foreign agent — but Oz says he just made a couple of videos.

The celebrity doctor is featured in promotional videos shown to passengers of the airline, which is 49.12 percent owned by the Turkish government, according to a 2015 FARA filing by public relations firm Golin/Harris.

“Dr. Oz clearly serves as a foreign agent on behalf of the foreign principal Turkish Airlines,” Armenian National Committee of America executive director Aram Hamparian wrote in a letter Tuesday demanding that assistant attorney general Matthew Olsen launch an inquiry.

...

David Laufman, who oversaw the Justice Department’s FARA enforcement from 2014 to 2018, told The Post he would not immediately dismiss the complaint.

“I think it would be appropriate for [the Justice Department] to undertake logical, analytical and investigative steps to determine whether Dr. Oz acted as a public relations counsel or publicity agent in the United States on behalf of Turkish Airlines,” Laufman said. “If he did, he likely would have an obligation to register unless he qualified for an exemption.”

Nothing like putting an (R) after your name to invite strict scrutiny.

His wife’s family’s business paid a $95 million dollar fine in 2017 for purposely hiring thousands of illegal aliens.

I do not support Dr Oz at all, but hardly think this is going to amount to much of anything...

Less than two weeks from the primary, and it’s do or die time primary wise.

I hope for a surprise and upset in this election, but I know the odds are that this carpetbagging slimeball is likely to sadly be the nominee.

Neither of the 2 front runners in this race are great IMHO... I have zero faith in either of them.

Every male Turkish citizen is required to serve in the Turkish Army.

Same for every Greek male citizen, every Israeli, etc.

Agreed, Trump’s endorsement looks like its going to push this carpet bagging slimeball over the top, and PA is going to be saddled once more with an unreliable “republican” when it matters... just like Specter, Toomey and Santorum before...

OF course this is true of BOTH the top two in the primary right now at least from the polling perspective.

PA GOP are useless.... Just swamp to its core.

He went to high school in Wilmington DE.
He went back to serve to keep his Turkish citizenship.
I am not fine with a US Senator having a dual allegiance, are you?

You nailed it. Oz is a Turk. I don't vote for foreigners. That's my nicest reason for not voting for this POS.

Let me guess: but they're OK with the Biden's "doing work" for the Ukrainians and they're OK with the Clinton's pay-to-play schemes.

I imagine there are many corporations operating in the USA that are owned by foreign states. CITGO comes to mind. I therefore have to suspect there is plenty of precedent on this issue.
