A combination of pandemic fatigue, being overworked, lengthy training time, and early retirements, is leading to a pilot shortage in the country. Now, airlines are upping the ante to fill the positions. In turn, several experts say that customers need to brace themselves for higher prices.
United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby said that in the U.S., airlines aim to add 13,000 pilots this year, but the country only produces between 5,000 and 7,000 pilots annually, according to an April 21, 2022, earnings call transcript. Fewer pilots mean less supply, which translates to higher prices, he added.
Kirby added on the call that, “the pilot shortage for the industry is real and most airlines are simply not going to be able to realize their capacity plan because there simply aren’t enough pilots, at least not for the next five-plus years,” according to the transcript. “The other really large airlines will also probably be able to attract enough pilots, but for anyone else, I just don’t think it’s mathematically possible to meet the pilot demand for the capacity plans that are out there.”

I am a retired Navy jet pilot with an ATP and put in an application to Southwest. They did not even consider my application because I do not have the death shot. Will not even bother to apply to another airline.
It’s not just the COVID-19 diktats deterring pilots. The mandated jabs are already reducing pilot numbers & causing unsafe flying conditions - jabbed pilots are telling certain people (Josh Yoder) that they are flying with chest pains.
Per Dr. McCullough, cardiologist, every jabbed pilot needs to be screened to see if they are safe to fly - the 4 tests he believes are necessary:
Baseline EKG
Troponin levels
D-dimer
Cardiac MRI
Dr. McCullough estimates 30% of jabbed pilots would be found to have heart issues that would result in a failed physical.

“The airlines are NOT doing the screenings required to assess pilot health and passenger safety because doing those screenings would reveal how unsafe the vaccines are. Therefore, I predict they will simply pretend this never happened. If a plane goes down, it’s OK because the insurance companies will pay and they will pretend it was just an accident.
So everyone will look the other way while these incidents continue.”
"I flew single engine fighters in the Air Force, but this plane has four engines. It's an entirely different kind of flying, altogether."

Regards,
There was an article last week about one airline eliminating a flight between Philadelphia and Allentown, PA and replacing it with a shuttle bills ride instead.
For the life of me, I couldn’t imagine why anyone would fly between these two points. Philadelphia and Allentown are less than 65 miles apart.
My little brother has been an airline captain for decades. After his second Pfizer he was grounded at his next FAA physical because his heart was swollen and inflamed. He has always been very health conscious and had no history of heart problems. He was not the only pilot grounded for this. The flight examiner was looking for symptoms. There is more to the story, but the mandatory jabs have grounded a lot more pilots than what the public is being led to believe. To top it off, my brother ended up with Covid anyway.
Be patient.
ON the left, your heart.
On the right, white blood cell attacked heart. Yep, the little purple things are the body's immune system attacking the organs, in this case the heart. The spike proteins wind up everywhere, which means the immune system is attacking everywhere.
It will NOT be very long before ALL of the airlines will be bidding for your services as the pilots who fell for/succumbed to the virus vaxxxxxxine scam will be finished flying. ALL of the vaxxxxxed are going to have their life expectancy shortened.
“A lot of pilots will be seduced by the prospect of large salaries and sign-on bonuses.”
Beat me to it. In the mid 80’s WWII plots were retiring from the airlines. The Navy raised the age limit for recruits to qualify for flight training from 22 to 26 to keep up with the exodus.
I have a question for the aviation folks here on FR. If you were already trained to fly a tanker for the ANG, what would it take to become a commercial airline pilot, and about how much would it cost? I have a nephew I want to help. TIA.
By the time you clear TSA and all that stuff you could have driven there by then; yeah, 65 mile flight?
““A lot of pilots will be seduced by the prospect of large salaries and sign-on bonuses.””
Local Delta pilots were picketing at the airport. Internet search claims they make $190K to $350K with bonuses. Not bad.
Prices will plummet again when we start losing 5-10 airliners a year to affirmative action piloting.
